When it comes to vitamins, no one can deny that they are essential. But, in terms of skincare, is there a difference in effectiveness whether you take vitamins internally or topically? When it comes to a specific vitamin, vitamin C to be exact, the answer is a resounding ‘YES’.

Is the UV stronger in Florida?
Geographic location -- the sun's rays are strongest at the equator, where the sun is most directly overhead. The closer the equator, the higher the UV radiation levels. With Florida's low latitude, we get more UV radiation.
Did You Know...
A sunscreen’s SPF number is a measure of the protection provided against UVB (290nm – 320nm) rays only.
It does not measure protection against UVA radiation (320-400nm).
SPF is quantified by not only the chosen filters and their concentrations, but the formula as a whole.
UVA vs UVB
AlumierMD not only quantifies SPF by adhering to rigorous, regulated testing but also confirms broad-spectrum protection by quantifying critical wavelength. While this is not regulated by Health Canada or the FDA, broad-spectrum protection is necessary for optimal protection.
Decoding SPF
SPF 15 filters 93.3% UVB - 6.7% gets through
SPF 30 filters 96.7% UVB - 3.3% gets through
SPF 45 filters 97.8% UVB - 2.2% gets though
SPF 50 filters 98% UVB - 2% gets through
Effects of UVA Rays

• 320-400nm
• Have the ability to pe*****te glass and clouds
• Present every day of the year at equal intensity during all daylight hours
• Account for 95% of UV rays that reach the earth
• UVA Radiation is almost 20x more abundant compared to UVB radiation. Therefore, 100 times more UVA photons reach the dermis than UVB photons
• The UVA radiation emitted by tanning beds is three times that amount of harmful radiation emitted by the sun
Can damage skin cells in the basal layer of the epidermis where most skin cancers arise (ex: basal cell carcinoma)
• Able to pe*****te deeper (dermis) generating free radicals that damage, targeting collagen, elastin, and blood vessels; deplete protective antioxidants
• Responsible for photoaging: wrinkles, sun-induced hypo/hyperpigmentation, intensify freckles.
Effects of UVB Rays
• 290-320nm
• The main cause of sunburn because they damage the skin’s more superficial epidermal layers
• Play a large part in the development of skin cancer
• Contributory role in photoaging and tanning
• They account for 5% of the sun’s rays
• Their strength varies according to season and weather conditions; more intense in the summer and at higher altitudes
• Over the last 25 years, more UVB rays have been penetrating the atmosphere because of the thinning ozone layer, increasing the risk for UVB-related sun damage.
Why is it Difficult to Find the Correct Sunscreen?
Lack of professional guidance
It can be expensive to buy in clinic, when there are cheaper options
You do not like the feeling of sunscreen on your skin
You do not feel you need to apply it everyday
You do not reapply because it is not elegant over makeup
You find some sunscreens leave a white casting on the face.
AlumierMD is Free of Chemical Filters
Micronized Zinc Oxide:
A safe, micronized mineral that offers broad-spectrum protection from both UVA and UVB rays. A smaller particle size enhances the dispersion of filters and increases SPF rating.
Titanium Dioxide:
A safe, naturally occurring mineral, coated for sun stability and effectively offers protection against both UVA and UVB

Medical grade vs Walgreens. Yes, there is a huge difference!
Department stores and drugstores offer appealing products. They smell nice, they feel nice and are, for the most part, quite affordable.
A TRUE medical-grade skincare brand is unique. Though marketing claims are threaded through countless drugstore products, the unique classification of medical-grade products is that they are physician dispensed. This means that these products are sold by medical professionals in a clinical setting, or a med spa with a medical director who oversees product recommendations and patient journeys.
Have you ever gotten ill, and tried to have Dr. Google diagnose your symptoms? Where did that lead you? Case and point. It is imperative to speak to someone who knows skin in depth, someone who has dedicated their professional career to looking at all sorts of skin types and conditions, and has a proven track record of positive outcomes. You also want to know that this person can explain what is happening inside your skin and why, as well as discuss the granular details with authority. This person is usually an aesthetician, medical aesthetician, cosmetic nurse, GP, surgeon or – of course – a dermatologist. Now if you consider these professionals, you will also notice that they usually don’t JUST sell medical-grade skincare.

With an overwhelming number of skincare products available everywhere from online to the grocery store, it’s almost expected that one would be confused with understanding how and when to trust...
