As part of pre‑season preparations, First Aid Team refresher trainings were held onboard Victory Cruise Lines, supporting readiness ahead of the start of operations.

The sessions brought together First Aid team members involved in emergency response and passenger care and included a refresher on emergency response procedures, Basic Life Support (BLS), the use of onboard medical equipment, and infection prevention measures. In coordination with the Safety Officer, the training also supported preparation for upcoming drills and operational scenarios.

Thank you to Dr. Olga and the medical team for leading this important pre‑season initiative and ensuring teams are confident, prepared, and ready for the season ahead.

Are PEMEs still just a formality? The latest data says otherwise.

Pre‑Employment Medical Exams (PEMEs) have become a strategic safeguard in today’s increasingly complex and risk‑exposed maritime environment. They’re no longer a simple checkbox, they’re revealing critical patterns operators can’t afford to miss.

What’s emerging from PEME data?
👉 Chronic conditions remain a major concern: hypertension, diabetes and cardiovascular risks are frequently identified, often requiring follow‑up rather than simple pass/fail decisions.

👉 Dental issues drive avoidable disruptions, strongly correlating with medical disembarkations. Early intervention is far more effective than in‑voyage treatment.

👉 Mental health indicators are rising, with PEMEs increasingly including psychological readiness assessments to identify vulnerability early.
