Perimenopause is the transitional phase leading up to menopause, when your hormones (especially estrogen and progesterone) start to shift. It typically begins in your 40’s, though for some women, it can start as early as their late 30’s. This transition phase often brings changes to your menstrual cycle, mood, energy, sleep, and more. Here are a few common symptoms (there are a lot more though)

Every woman’s journey through perimenopause is different. We can support this transition with simple, sustainable habits that reduce stress on your system and help you feel more balanced day to day as your body works hard to adapt to the new hormonal rhythms. Hormonal shifts can make your blood sugar more sensitive, leading to crashes that affect your mood, sleep, and cravings. Focus on blood sugar balance by 1) eating proteins + healthy fats with every meal 2) adding fiber-rich foods to help slow sugar absorption 3) not skipping meals, especially breakfast 4) avoid sugary “pick-me-ups” and opt for protein-rich snacks instead. Our bodies need extra nourishment to manage inflammation and rebuild hormone pathways. Think whole foods, lots of color, healthy fats, and clean protein. Reducing stress is one of the most powerful things you can do for your hormones: 7-9 hours of quality sleep, breath work, journaling, gentle movement like stretching, yoga, limiting caffeine, especially first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach. Hormone balance is linked to how well your body eliminates waste, including excess hormones. Aim to drink half of your body weight in ounces per day, support your liver with cruciferous vegetables, lemon water, dandelion tea, and aim for 1-3 daily bowel movements.
