Our Director of Program Operations has worked diligently with the leadership team to roll out a new employee appreciation initiative! We now have the "Ducky to Have You!" program! 🦆

Employees can be nominated and put into the duck pond. Every two weeks, a duck is selected from the pond and that employee will receive awards for service excellence and for going above and beyond to support their peers and the residents.

Thank you for all you do, and we are excited to recognize our staff in this fun new way!

Read Across America Week was in full swing at the South Boston Day School as we celebrated all things Dr. Seuss. From spirit days like PJ Day, Wacky Tacky Day and Crazy Socks Day to plenty of reading adventures, our classrooms were full of imagination and laughter.

A special highlight was the green eggs and ham served by our amazing TA, Ms. Michelle — and yes, the students loved it. We also spent the week creating Seuss‑themed crafts and bringing some of our favorite stories to life.

It has been a wonderful week celebrating the joy of reading and the creativity that books inspire.

The Hughes Center, Danville Day School took learning beyond the classroom and into the community. Director of Education Tamara Poindexter and Administrative Assistant Faith Overby provided hands‑on sensory activities for children and families. From interactive touch‑and‑feel stations to experiences that engaged sight, sound and smell, it was wonderful to see so many smiles and curious minds at work. 🧡

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, participated and connected with us. We love creating spaces where children can explore, learn and grow in ways that are meaningful and memorable.

Celebrating Black History Month at the Danville Day School ❤️🖤💚

Throughout February, our students and staff honored Black History Month through meaningful lessons, thoughtful discussions, educational films, hands‑on activities and learning about influential figures from our local community and beyond.

Staff joined in the celebration by participating in weekly trivia, making learning interactive, fun and school‑wide. We wrapped up the month with a powerful showcase where students performed for staff and peers with music and dance that highlighted the rich culture, history and contributions of Black Americans. We closed the celebration with a delicious soul food luncheon.

We are incredibly proud of our students and grateful for staff who embrace opportunities to learn and celebrate alongside them.

At the South Boston Day School, Ms. Blair’s class is building strong minds and kind hearts through daily mindful moments. As part of their social‑emotional learning, students begin each class with words of affirmation that encourage calmness, self‑acceptance and confidence. Hearing them speak positivity into their day sets a foundation for focus, resilience and connection.

To support their self‑regulation goals, each student keeps a special grounding stone at their desk as a reminder to pause, breathe and make thoughtful choices. From soothing amazonite and calming calcite to steady dragon stone, these small but meaningful tools help students stay centered and work toward their behavioral goals with intention.

We are proud of our students for embracing mindfulness, practicing self‑awareness and showing daily commitment to personal growth. Their efforts inspire us every day.
