Ms. Lisa’s positive attitude, strong work ethic and creative ideas leave a lasting impact on our students and staff every day. Her fun, welcoming personality is just one of the many reasons everyone loves her.

South Boston Day School students and staff wrapped up the season at the final Area 15 Special Olympics Track & Field event on April 21 at Mecklenburg County High School.

Our athletes gave it their all in the 25-meter dash, mini javelin, softball throw, and tennis ball throw, and brought home first place as a team in the 100-meter relay. We are so proud of the teamwork and determination shown by every participant!

A huge thank you to our families for cheering us on and to our partners at Mecklenburg County Public Schools for hosting such a wonderful event!

The Hughes Educational Center in Christiansburg partnered with the City of Christiansburg Parks and Recreation Department and Aquatics Center to launch a mentorship program integrated into the Extended School Year (ESY) program for summer 2026.

The six-week program runs from June 17 to Aug. 5 and focuses on life skills outside the classroom, including vehicle preparedness, interviewing and budgeting skills, meal preparation, pool and facility etiquette, beginner swim lessons and pool maintenance.

Staff from the Hughes Educational Center in Christiansburg participated in the 25th Blue Ridge Kite Festival on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Greenhill Park in Salem, Virginia. The free, family‑friendly event featured kite displays, demonstrations, crafts, children’s activities, sensory experiences, food trucks and local vendors.

Our team enjoyed connecting with attendees, sharing information about the Hughes Educational Center in Christiansburg, discussing student placement opportunities and highlighting current hiring needs.

We’re hiring mental health technicians for direct care and all shifts are available.

Our South Boston Day School ducks had some memorable spring break adventures! Before the break, students and staff each selected a duck to take along on their travels and shared snapshots from the journey. From professional development sessions and church visits to shopping trips, mountain and beach getaways, park days and some well‑deserved relaxation at home, these ducks stayed busy.

We proudly recognized Autism Acceptance Day at The Hughes Center South Boston campus on April 2. As a school serving students with autism from Halifax County, Mecklenburg County and Charlotte County, we’re honored to educate students ages 5 to 22 who inspire us every day.

Our school community is built on understanding, support and celebrating the unique strengths of each student. Throughout April, we look forward to highlighting the achievements, talents and individuality of our students while continuing to promote acceptance, inclusion and appreciation.

🌈 The Danville Day School was bursting with color, creativity and school spirit all week long. From bright spring and rainbow outfits to the most creative crazy socks, our students and staff truly showed up. 🌸

Twin Day and Famous Duos were favorites, filling the halls with laughter, teamwork and some very clever pairings. 👯‍♀️

We wrapped up the week in style with vibrant tie‑dye looks, and to make it even more fun, the Easter Bunny stopped by for a surprise visit. 🐰💐

Thank you to our amazing students and staff for bringing the energy, joy and participation that made this week unforgettable!
