Jubilee Speech Therapy llc

Jubilee Speech Therapy llc Jubilee Speech Therapy helps adults in Baldwin County, AL communicate clearly & safely through speech, language, memory, voice & swallowing therapy.

Serving Fairhope, Daphne, Foley & beyond. Now accepting new patients. I’m Valerie Lanier, M.S., CCC-SLP, and I’m the owner of Jubilee Speech Therapy LLC in Daphne, Alabama. I serve individuals and families across Daphne, Fairhope, and Baldwin County, including the greater Mobile and Baldwin County, AL area. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Speech and Hearing Sciences (minor in Psychology) from the University of South Alabama (2013) and my Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology (2015) from the same university. I have 8 years of experience as a Speech-Language Pathologist (Speech Therapist) in Skilled Nursing Facility settings, treating adult conditions such as stroke/CVA, traumatic brain injury (TBI), Parkinson’s disease, dementia, cognitive-communication disorders, and dysphagia (swallowing disorders). My work is driven by two big passions: communication and swallowing. Most people expect mobility might change over time, but almost nobody anticipates what it feels like when talking becomes difficult, or when eating and drinking stop feeling simple. I knew I was in the right field when I observed a stroke survivor with expressive aphasia fight their way back to saying, “I love you.”

I’m especially passionate about swallowing therapy because swallowing impacts more than nutrition; it impacts confidence and connection. Meals are where life happens. When swallowing becomes difficult, people often start avoiding food and social gatherings, and isolation grows fast. My goal is to help you safely rebuild skills so daily life feels normal again. At Jubilee Speech Therapy, I provide adult speech therapy, cognitive therapy, and swallowing therapy (dysphagia treatment) in in-home and outpatient settings so the progress we make carries over into everyday routines. Common questions I hear:
Do you offer in-home speech therapy in Daphne, AL? Yes—depending on your needs and location. Do you treat swallowing problems (dysphagia)? Yes, including swallow rehabilitation and
safe-strategy training. Do you help after stroke? Yes—speech, language, and cognitive-communication support
for stroke recovery. If you or a loved one is experiencing speech changes, language difficulty, memory or thinking challenges, voice concerns, or swallowing difficulty, I’m here in Daphne, Alabama to help. Call or message Jubilee Speech Therapy LLC to schedule an evaluation and get clear next steps.

Swallowing isn’t something you think about… until it becomes hard.

Meals get stressful. Pills feel like a gamble. Even water can be scary.

Then I found Jubilee Speech Therapy here on the Eastern Shore. They listened, explained what was going on, and gave me real strategies I could actually use. Most importantly, they gave me hope—backed by expertise.

If swallowing has gotten difficult, you’re not alone. Talk to your physician and ask if a referral to Jubilee Speech Therapy for a thorough evaluation.

You shouldn’t have to “try harder to remember.” That’s not a plan. That’s a pep talk.

At Jubilee Speech Therapy, our focus is cognitive-communication therapy—help for when memory, attention, organization, and communication don’t feel as smooth as they used to.

Here’s what that actually looks like:
• We figure out what your day requires (meds, work tasks, conversations, appointments).
• We build a goal-based plan with repeatable strategies—not guesswork.
• We use tools that work in real life: simple routines, self-monitoring “check-ins,” and external supports like planners, notes, and phone reminders.

Because progress comes from having a system you can use on your best day… and your hardest day.

If you’ve noticed changes in focus, memory, or staying organized, talk with your physician about a referral for cognitive-communication therapy. We’ll help you build a plan that actually holds up in the real world.

Something as simple as medication turned into a daily struggle.

“I can take my pills without choking!”

That’s why speech therapy is bigger than “just talking.” Speech therapists also help with swallowing (dysphagia), using strategies and exercises that make eating, drinking, and taking meds safer and less stressful.

Because being able to take your meds isn’t a small win. It’s independence. Cheers to the huge “happy little accidents” that change everyday life.

Teachers, nurses, pastors, and sales reps in Daphne and Fairhope and the Eastern Shore: if your voice feels rough by lunch, you’re not imagining it. You’re basically doing reps all day.

Here’s the big one: throat clearing isn’t your friend. It keeps smacking your vocal cords together and can make that scratchy feeling hang around longer. Next time you feel the “ahem” coming on, try a sip of water and a good swallow, or a quiet, breathy “huh” (no sound) and swallow.

Keep it easy: small sips all day, don’t yell over noise (step closer or grab a mic), skip whispering when you’re hoarse, and sneak in tiny voice breaks whenever you can.

If you’ve been hoarse for 4+ weeks, it’s worth an ENT check and asking about voice therapy with a speech language pathologist in Baldwin County.

Ever have a word right there… and your brain hits the brakes? 😅
That “tip-of-the-tongue” moment happens to everyone, and it can be a normal part of aging and everyday stress. However, if finding that elusive word is annoying you lately, here are a few tricks you can try in the moment:

✅ Pause and breathe (your brain retrieves better when you’re not panicking)
✅ Use a category cue: “It’s a fruit… starts with ‘a’…”
✅ Describe it: “The cold box in the kitchen” (hello, refrigerator)
✅ Give it 10 seconds then move on and come back
✅ Write names down in your phone for quick refreshers before events

And here’s the mega important part: If these moments are increasing, or communication is starting to feel stressful, it’s a smart move to talk to a speech-language professional. You don’t have to “wait until it’s bad.”

Your words matter. And you deserve to feel comfortable using them. 💬
