I am Valerie Lanier, and I am the owner of Jubilee Speech Therapy llc located in Daphne, AL. I was born and raised in Slidell, LA and moved to Fairhope, AL after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. I graduated from University of South Alabama in 2013 with a bachelor's degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences with a minor in Psychology. I continued on to graduate school at the University of South Alabama and completed my master's degree in Speech Language Pathology in 2015. I remained in the Mobile and Baldwin County area after graduating and am currently residing in the Daphne area. I have 8 years of experience in Skilled Nursing Facility as a Speech Language Pathologist (e.g., Speech Therapist) and have been treating a variety of disorders including but not limited to CVA/stroke, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Dementia, Parkinson's, unspecified cognitive impairment, and Dysphagia. With the skills I have developed over the years, I feel I can better serve my community through in-home/outpatient settings to allow for more generalization of learned skills and patient-centered care. I have two main passions to speak of regarding my work: communication and swallow function. Everyone anticipates having difficulty walking or moving around at some point in their life. However, next-to no one ever anticipates having difficulty talking or eating. When I was doing observations in the medical field, I witnessed a Speech Therapy session with an Expressive Aphasia (post CVA) patient learning to say 'I love you' again and the look on the patient's face when she finally got it was all I needed to know I was going into the right field. My other main passion is rehabilitating swallow function as it is not only a source of nutrition that drives our health, but many social engagements surround eating/drinking. If you take that away, people often recluse and isolate themselves. No one likes being around food/drink when they are unable to partake. Social interactions with friends and family drive quality of life, and I am here to help bridge the gaps, if you need.
