The Healthy Child

The Healthy Child The Healthy Child is a small, pediatric practice where the doctors give personal attention to every Welcome to THE HEALTHY CHILD.

At The Healthy Child we treat your family with warmth and compassion. The Healthy Child is a small, intimate pediatric practice where the doctors give personal attention to every child. The practice also offers a variety of support groups for their patients such as New Mom Groups, Asthma Support Groups and Food Allergy Groups. We are dedicated to providing personal care in a small group practice. We strive to care for all physical and emotional aspects of a child’s health. After working for twenty years as part of a large group practice, Dr. Windels decided to open this practice utilizing a more personal approach. The office opened in the Spring of 2007 and has been growing steadily. However, we are determined to stay small and caring. We work hard to offer you the highest quality of care while getting to know you and your children. We follow the guidelines of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Our physicians are all Board Certified. Immunizations are a very important part of preventative medicine and we strongly believe in their efficacy in preventing illness and saving lives. You as parents are an integral part of the treatment team. We want to listen to your concerns and allow adequate time to do so. Please let the receptionists know when you call to schedule what kind of appointment you need so that we can plan accordingly. We do recommend that parents select a primary physician so that we can get to know you and your children. This allows for better continuity of care and a more personalized approach. We use electronic medical records which are better for keeping records organized and having access to all your records at any time that we need them. We also maintain separate sick and well waiting rooms to minimize the spread of germs. We are cognizant of potential transmission of illness and so we never have newborns wait in any waiting room. We are fortunate to have an exceptional staff. Everyone here is kind and compassionate and strives to insure that your family has the best experience possible while providing the highest quality of care.

“Since her death in 1979, the woman who discovered what the universe is made of has not so much as received a memorial plaque. Her newspaper obituaries do not mention her greatest discovery. […] Every high school student knows that Isaac Newton discovered gravity, that Charles Darwin discovered evolution, and that Albert Einstein discovered the relativity of time. But when it comes to the composition of our universe, the textbooks simply say that the most abundant atom in the universe is hydrogen. And no one ever wonders how we know.”

Jeremy Knowles, discussing the complete lack of recognition Cecilia Payne gets for her revolutionary discovery. (via alliterate)

OH WAIT LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT CECILIA PAYNE.
Cecilia Payne’s mother refused to spend money on her college education, so she won a scholarship to Cambridge.
Cecilia Payne completed her studies, but Cambridge wouldn’t give her a degree because she was a woman, so she said to heck with that and moved to the United States to work at Harvard.
Cecilia Payne was the first person ever to earn a Ph.D. in astronomy from Radcliffe College, with what Otto Strauve called “the most brilliant Ph.D. thesis ever written in astronomy.”
Not only did Cecilia Payne discover what the universe is made of, she also discovered what the sun is made of (Henry Norris Russell, a fellow astronomer, is usually given credit for discovering that the sun’s composition is different from the Earth’s, but he came to his conclusions four years later than Payne—after telling her not to publish).
Cecilia Payne is the reason we know basically anything about variable stars (stars whose brightness as seen from earth fluctuates). Literally every other study on variable stars is based on her work.
Cecilia Payne was the first woman to be promoted to full professor from within Harvard, and is often credited with breaking the glass ceiling for women in the Harvard science department and in astronomy, as well as inspiring entire generations of women to take up science.
Cecilia Payne is awesome and everyone should know her.

From the staff at The Healthy Child

The new cases bring the cumulative number of infected children to over 476,000, and that figure represents 9.5% of the over 5 million COVID-19 cases reported among all ages.

Governor Lamont, Governor Cuomo, and Governor Murphy Announce Joint Incoming Travel Advisory That All Individuals Traveling From States With Significant Community Spread of COVID-19 Self-Quarantine for 14 DaysTri-State Advisory Will Use Uniform Parameters and Messaging Across the Three States

(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Ned Lamont of Connecticut, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo ofNew York, and Governor Phil Murphy of New Jersey today announced a joint incoming traveladvisory that all individuals traveling from states with significant community spread of COVID-19 self-quarantine for a 14-day period from the time of last contact within the identified state.

This self-quarantine – effective 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 – applies to any personarriving from a state with a positive test rate higher than 10 per 100,000 residents or a state witha 10 percent or higher positivity rate over a 7-day rolling average.

Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey will continually update and publish on their respectivewebsites a list of states to which the new advisory applies. This information will be updatedregularly.

The tri-state measure will use uniform parameters and messaging on highways, airports, websitesand social media across the three states. The three states will also ask hotels to communicate the14-day quarantine to guests who have traveled from one of the impacted states.

“Working together as a region has proven to be immensely successful as our respective states areleading the country when it comes to our response with low infection and positivity rates relativeto increased testing capacity,” Governor Lamont said. “We have made difficult decisionsthroughout this pandemic, but we have proven to make many of the right decisions. This step toinform travelers form states with hot spots to self-isolate is meant to protect our residents andmaintain our incredible public health progress.”

“In New York we went from the highest number of cases to some of the lowest rates in thecountry – no one else had to bend the curve as much as we did and now we have to make surethat the rate continues to drop in our entire region,” Governor Cuomo said. “We’ve beenworking with our neighbors in New Jersey and Connecticut throughout this entire pandemic, andwe're announcing a joint travel advisory that says people coming in from states with a highinfection rate must quarantine for 14 days. We’ve worked very hard to get the viral transmissionrate down and we don’t want to see it go up again because people are traveling into the state andbringing it with them.”

“Over the course of the past few months, our states have taken aggressive action to flatten thecurve and beat back the coronavirus,” Governor Murphy said. “As a result of our collectiveefforts, we have low infection rates, falling hospitalizations, and have steadily been reopeningour economies. Unfortunately many states continue to have high transmission rates. We are proud to work with our partners in New York and Connecticut on a joint incoming travel advisory to ensure continued progress against this virus and to keep residents of the tri-state area safe.”

The states include: ALABAMA,ARKANSAS, ARIZONA, FLORIDA, NORTH AND SOUTH CAROLINA, TEXAS AND UTAH.

Don’t forget to schedule your child’s well checks and vaccinations!

Telemedicine has its limits. And postponing shots could lead to a resurgence of diseases like measles. Doctors are taking steps to make their offices safe for kids who need to come in.

More than 117 million children could miss out on immunization against measles as the COVID-19 pandemic forces social distancing and piles pressure on health services, United Nations health agencies warned on Tuesday.
