Michael Keith Hales, 54, affectionately known as “Boo” to his family and friends, passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday, March 24, 2026. He was born on August 13, 1971, in Laurinburg, North Carolina, to the late Eddie Lee Hales, Sr. and Zula Brigman Hales.Michael lived a simple life, finding contentment in the basic necessities and never asking for more than what he needed. He had a great wit about him, often bringing laughter to those around him with his quick humor and easygoing nature. He enjoyed fishing whenever the opportunity prevailed, finding peace and joy in those quiet moments.Left to cherish Michael’s memory are his siblings: brother, Eddie Hales, Jr. of Pamplico, SC; sisters, Jackie Poston and her husband, Marty, of Timmonsville/Myrtle Beach, SC, and Debra Truett and her husband, Robbie, of Darlington, SC; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews, and an army of people who loved and cared for him.A graveside service in celebration of Michael’s life will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Mechanicsville Baptist Church Cemetery, 2364 Cashua Ferry Rd, Darlington, SC 29532.At the request of the family, please consider memorial contributions in lieu of flowers. Harry Thomas Parnell

Mr. Harry Thomas Parnell, age 92, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 26, 2026. A visitation will take place Monday, March 30, 2026, at Belk Funeral Home of Lamar from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. A memorial service will follow in the Chapel at 3:00 p.m., with burial and military honors to follow in Lamar Cemetery.

Harry was born on January 16, 1934, in Darlington County, to the late George Leon Parnell and Estelle Brown Parnell Collins. After graduating from Lamar High School, he began what would become a distinguished 45-year career with Sonoco’s Paper Mill. In 1953, Harry answered the call to serve his country in the U.S. Army, serving as an MP in Germany for several years before returning to the States. Upon his return, he resumed his tenure with Sonoco, and in 1958, he met and married Gertrude Smith Parnell.

A dedicated husband, father, and grandfather, Harry was a pillar of his community. He was a member of the Sonoco Old Timers, the Lamar Civitan Club, and the Methodist Men. He loved the Lord immensely and was a devoted member of Lamar United Methodist Church.

He leaves behind his children: Beth Parnell (Mark) Rankin of Conway, SC, and Harry T. “Stoney” (Mary) Parnell of York, SC; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his very best friend and companion, Linda McKay. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude; his parents; his brothers, William Parnell and G.L. Parnell; his sister, Wilma Hendrix; and his daughter, Cindy Shipman.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lamar United Methodist Church or any charity of your choice.

Donnie Stegall, 63, passed away at home with his beloved wife Tangie and their 2 golden retrievers Comet and Cooper by his side after a long illness, on Tuesday, March 24th, 2026. The family will receive friends beginning at 3:00pm, Sunday, March 29th, 2026, at The Grand Old Post Office located at 201 Pearl Street in Darlington. At 4:00pm an informal service will begin where friends will be able to share stories and memories of Donnie, following the informal service the family will remain to socialize until 5:00pm.

Donnie was born on March 26th, 1962 to Wade H. Stegall and Verna Ree Hardee Stegall in Darlington County, SC. Donnie was voted most athletic in his class at St. John’s in 1980. He attended Francis Marion University where he played baseball, which he was a natural at. He enjoyed sports of all kinds throughout his lifetime. He met and married the love of his life Tangie Hudson Stegall and they shared a lifetime of love with their 41 years of marriage together. Donnie was a very special man, who loved life, and the Lord. He started his own company Carolina Point Of Sale, he viewed all of his many customers as friends. He had a special place in his heart for the many golden retrievers they've had over the years, and now he leaves behind Cooper and Comet whom he loved dearly. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, fishing, spending time with his many friends and family, and sitting on the beach with the sand between his toes while listening to beach music. He leaves behind his loving wife Tangie Stegall. His siblings: Larry (Vickie) Stegall, Danny (Melinda) Stegall, and Ven (Randy-his very special brother in law, who was like a brother to him) Lambert. His very special mother-in-law Maxine Hudson. His loving nephews: Chris (Beverly) Lambert, Dean (Angie) Lambert, Erik (Heather) Stegall, Patrick Stegall, Daniel Stegall, and Matthew (Kaitlyn) Stegall. His beloved great-nephew Wade Lambert, Ryker Stegall, Slade Stegall, Chase Stegall, and great nieces: Logan Lambert, Leah Lambert, Addison (Roo) Lambert, and Sophie Stegall. His special brothers-in-law: Joey Hudson and Dennis Hudson. His lifelong best- friend and bother Joey Masneri. Their very special family friends Ken & Lisa Stewart. Preceding him in death are his mother Verna and father Wade Stegall, and his wonderful father-in-law Franklin Hudson. The family would like to give a special thank you to Christy Hyatt with Agape Hospice. Donnie never met a stranger, and he will be greatly missed by those that knew him. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. Donnie will never be forgotten and will live on in the hearts of those that knew him.

David Lee Barber

David Barber, age 72, passed away Tuesday, March 24, in his hometown of Darlington, where he spent his entire life surrounded by family, friends, and the community he loved. The family will receive relatives and friends at Belk Funeral Home on Sunday, March 29 from 2:00 to 3:00pm. The funeral service will follow at 3pm in the Belk Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow in Grove Hill Cemetery.

Born November 3, 1953, David is the son of the late Charles W. and Ila L. Barber. David was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jane, with whom he shared 36 years of marriage. Also predeceased by brother, Charles Wayne Barber, sisters Lynn Tolson, Joyce Carr.

Surviving are his two sons, David Lee (Leigh Anne) Barber, Jr., of Charlotte and Charles Damon (Lani) Barber of Lexington; grandchildren: Addison, Bryan, and Avery; brother, Jerry Mark (Karen) Barber of Darlington. His family was the cornerstone of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Throughout his years in Darlington, David touched the lives of many. He was a graduate of St. John’s High School, worked the family farm, was employed by Dixie Cup and ran several small businesses in the community. He loved the Clemson Tigers and kept up with the football, basketball and baseball teams through conversation with his boys and trips to Tiger Town whenever possible. He loved to draw and shared his special sketches with his grandchildren. David never met a stranger, found the good in all people and believed a hard days work deserved a celebration. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit lives on in the hearts of his children, grandchildren, and all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to THE LORD CARES at P.O. Box 1457, Darlington, SC 29540.

Barbara Louise Culpeper Wilson, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2026. The family will gather at Belk Funeral Home, Thursday, March 26th from 6:00 to 8:00pm for a time of remberance and visitation. Barbara was born on November 9th, 1962 in Washington, DC to the late William B. and Mary Kelly Culpeper. Preceding her in death is her husband Terry Wilson, her brother Gregory Culpeper, and sister Susan Reed. She leaves behind her children: Amy (Mark) Driggers of Timmonsville and Eric (Samantha) Wilson of Florence. Her grandchildren Abigail and Luke Driggers. Her siblings: William (Terri) Culpeper, Jr. of Rush, Colorado, Patricia Sturgeon of Timmonsville, and Lori Culpeper of Columbia, along with several nieces and nephews. Barbara studied surgical technologies at Florence Darlington TECH and worked in the operating room while earning her Degree as a Registered Nurse. Most of her career was spent working in surgery, which she truly loved. She loved her family deeply and had a soft spot for animals.
