Today we wanted to highlight and thank some of our partners, that without their exceptional care we would not be able to provide the outstanding care we have to many patients. DAEMS is a basic service, so at times we have to reach out for help on critical care calls.

Green County EMS- We often call on Green County’s 800 unit to assist us with paramedic care on critical calls.

UW Madison Medflight- We are lucky to have a Medflight hanger located close to us in Mineral Point. Their fast response and outstanding care has saved many lives.

Riley Schmidt is one of our newer members with DAEMS, but he’s been involved with EMS since 2013 and is an AEMT. He not only serves our community, but also is involved with Southwest Health out of Platteville as well.

Riley wanted to share with all of you why he decided to become a part of EMS;

“I joined EMS because I have always had an interest in the medical field. While attending UWP I saw the opportunity to join and become a member of Platteville EMS, and I jumped at the chance. Helping the community in which you live is also a huge benefit. Ever since I joined EMS I have never looked back or regreted my decision. “

Kayla Ruf has been with EMS for 6 years and currently is an EMT with the squad.

When we talked to Kayla about why she joined and what she’d like to say to others interested in EMS she said,

“It takes a special kind of person to miss out on family time and holidays to help others that need it, and we do that time and time again and are happy to do it. Especially if it means that we can help someone when they need it most. A friendly face goes a long way to comfort someone on their worst day. If you’ve ever even had a thought about being involved, come spend some time with us. Maybe the back of the ambulance isn’t for you, maybe it is, but you won’t know unless you give us a shot.”

Brien Cleary is one of our Drivers here at DAEMS. He been with us since 2018.

We asked Brien, why did you decide to join EMS?

“I joined EMS because I enjoy helping people, and like the satisfaction after each call knowing that you helped someone. I also enjoy the people on our crew, they are like family to me.”

Nicki Goebel has been a part of EMS for 7 years, and serves as an EMT on our squad.

When asked what her favorite part of being a part of EMS was, her reply was this;

“I enjoy seeing someone out and about after helping them, and doing well! I have enjoyed helping and being a part of events like Hero’s day, fundraisers, trainings,WEMSA, and being a vital part of our community! EMS has become a big part of my life and being there for someone when they are sick, or injured is something I will never forget.”

Her advice to someone interested in EMS is to “try and do a ride along. See how comforting your presence is to someone in their time of need.”

Bridget Schuchart has been a part of EMS for 23 years, and 11 of those have been as an EMS instructor. She has been a great mentor and role model for many that have passed though our doors. So much so that even her daughter Lexi Hermanson has followed in her foot steps and has been on squad since 2017.

Both Bridget and Lexi have said being involved in EMS is very rewarding, it’s a great way to give back to your community! Their favorite part is working with other local agencies such as DFD, L*D, and local PD in training exercises. Seeing how everyone can work and come together as one team is amazing!

Joan Thompson is a Driver/ EMT and has been with DAEMS since 2017.

When asked what her favorite part of being involved in EMS was she had this to share:

“It’s a challenge that takes a special skill set. One of my favorite parts is the feeling of appreciation you get from the patients you’re helping. Another part I appreciate is being there to help the ones you love.”
