Driving under the influence of alcohol, cannabis, prescription or over-the-counter medications (or any combination of these), severely impairs coordination, judgement, and reaction time.

This holiday season, if you plan on drinking, use a designated driver or a ride share. If you see someone impaired, don’t be afraid to step in. You might save a life.

As winter weather settles in, snowy and icy conditions can make even a short walk risky. Many winter injuries happen when sidewalks, driveways, and parking lots become slick, so staying alert and taking a few simple precautions can help keep you safe.

✔ Walk slowly and cautiously
✔ Choose sturdy footwear
✔ Pay attention to surfaces that may look wet but are actually icy.

By staying aware and taking your time, you can stay safe and injury-free this winter.

For many people who are living alcohol-free, New Year’s Eve can bring a mix of emotions. While it’s a night often centered around drinking, it can also be a meaningful opportunity to celebrate your progress, protect your health, and step into the new year with clarity and confidence.

If you’re in recovery, know this: you are not alone, and your commitment to staying sober is something to be proud of. It’s okay to set boundaries, to leave early, to bring your own beverages, or to skip events that don’t support your well-being. Your recovery is worth protecting, tonight and every night.

Reach out to the people who lift you up. Plan traditions that keep you grounded. Celebrate in ways that match your goals, your values, and your journey.

As we head into the new year, your health, your safety, and your recovery matter.
We’re here to support you, and we’re cheering you on.

Winter can be beautiful, but cold weather can also be dangerous. Keep yourself and your loved ones safe with these tips:

✔ Dress in layers
Wear a hat, gloves, scarf, and warm footwear. Layering helps trap heat.
✔ Use heating safely
Keep heaters away from flammable objects and never leave them unattended.
✔ Know the signs of cold-related illness
Shivering, confusion, numbness, or pale skin can indicate hypothermia or frostbite. Seek medical help immediately.
✔ Limit time outside in extreme cold
Take breaks indoors to warm up if you must be outside.

Last but certainly not least, check on neighbors, especially older adults and people with health conditions, to make sure everyone stays safe this winter.

Day 8 of Winter Wellness: Take a Moment to Breathe.
Stress can affect both your mind and body. Even small pauses, deep breaths, a short walk, or a quiet moment, can help support your overall well-being during the winter months.

The holiday season can bring joy, but it can also increase stress, pressure, and feelings of loneliness. Taking care of your mental health is just as important as taking care of your physical health.

✔ Stay connected
Reach out to friends, family, or community groups. Even a short conversation can boost your mood and reduce feelings of isolation.
✔ Take breaks when you need them
Busy schedules and expectations can feel overwhelming. Give yourself permission to rest, slow down, and set boundaries.
✔ Ask for support
If stress starts to impact sleep, appetite, or daily routines, it’s okay to talk to someone you trust or connect with local support resources.
✔ Keep expectations realistic
Your holiday doesn’t have to be perfect. Focus on what matters most: safety, connection, and well-being.
✔ Be kind to yourself
The season looks different for everyone. Small acts of self-care matter.

Wishing our community peace, support, and connection this holiday season.

Vaccines help keep our families, friends, and neighbors healthy. When more people stay up to date on recommended vaccinations, we’re all better protected from preventable illnesses.

✔ Vaccines strengthen your immune system.
✔ They help keep workplaces, schools, and community spaces safe.
✔ They protect those who are too young or medically unable to get vaccinated.
✔ They reduce the risk of severe illness, hospitalization, and long-term complications.

Getting vaccinated is a simple way to care for yourself and the people around you. We the People Vax because healthy communities start with all of us.

Strong winds are expected Tuesday night through Wednesday, and they could knock out power in parts of our community.

Stay safe:
• Report outages to your utility company
• Have flashlights readily available
• Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed
• Never run generators indoors or in garages

If driving:
• Avoid travel if possible
• Treat dark traffic signals as four-way stops
• Stay away from downed power lines

Please remember to check on elderly neighbors and those with special needs. Our community is safer when we look out for each other.
