Bonnie Lang was born in the small farming town of Donahue, Iowa, during the hardships of the Great Depression. When she was six years old, her family faced a difficult decision: her father had to sell the farm. With hope for steadier work, they moved to the city of Davenport, where Bonnie’s childhood truly took root.
As a young woman, Bonnie found her place in the Davenport school system. She began her career as a secretary at JB Young, later moving to Eisenhower, where her warm smile and steady presence became a familiar comfort to staff and students alike.
Life carried her next to Des Moines, where she settled with her husband, a well-known and respected veterinarian. Bonnie cherished many things, but Christmas held a special place in her heart. She and her sister—four years her senior—would save their hard-earned money each year to buy their mother, a talented seamstress, an electric sewing machine. It remains one of Bonnie’s fondest memories: two daughters giving back to the woman who had sewn so much love into their lives.
When asked what advice she would give someone considering senior living, Bonnie’s response is simple and wise: “Ask people where they like to live. Ask your friends if they know someone in a community you’re considering.” Practical, thoughtful guidance—just like the woman herself.
Bonnie has lived at Silvercrest at Garner for 17 years. In that time, she has made wonderful friends and built a life she loves. Her story is one of resilience, kindness, and the quiet joy of making the most of every chapter.
