🦃 Happy Thanksgiving from HK Therapy!

We are feeling extra grateful this year! Adding new team members, expanding our ability to support families in the QC, and spending time with the cutest little turkeys. We feel so thankful that our families choose us to help support them! We had a blast these last few weeks making all the turkey crafts, reflecting on what we are thankful for, and reading our favorite Thanksgiving book 'Turkey Trouble'!

This week our speech therapist Kate got a request from one of our future artists to "draw speech". Even while allowing the child to choose and direct the activity Kate was still able to target all their goals! Expressing directions, adjectives, answering questions, and expanding sentence length.

And we think she nailed the drawing. Look for it next time you visit the Figge! 👀

When kids are learning to talk, they simplify words by using phonological processes. Phonological processes are patterns of speech errors children use when they’re still learning how to produce words. This is a normal stage of development! Most processes fade out on their own, but if they stick around too long, speech therapy can help.

💚 Augmentative meaning that AAC is used to support, strengthen, and increase effectiveness of communication.
💙 Alternative meaning that AAC is used to it is available as an optional mode of communication.

AAC can provide children with flexibility and autonomy over their access to communication in ways that are the most accessible and functional for them.
