Every time I see a bill from our "sick care" insurance model, I am blown away at the gross inflation of medical services. Here is a picture of my recent urgent care visit compared to what I charge my cash patients....

Ketorolac shot: Me, $25, them $123.73 (ps the actual cost of ketorolac is $4 per dose)

Charge to give the shot: me, nothing, them: $88 (ps, I'm already there so what's 2 minutes to pull up the shot and give it? is it worth $88?)

Cost to spend an hour with me: $75, them: I got 30 minutes at urgent care for $393

I still have an acceptable profit margin at these numbers, feel decently compensated and above all, I enjoy the interaction I have with my patients and that is compensation too!

Ps, I don't offer urgent care services, I'm just highlighting/comparing price of items and cost of providers time here...
