🎗January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month and every Friday we will share a fact about what human trafficking is and how it impacts hundreds in our local communities.

💡FACT: Human trafficking rarely begins with force. It often starts with coercion—manipulation, grooming, threats, or the promise of safety, love, housing, or money.

‼️In Iowa, many trafficking cases involve survivors who were controlled through fear, emotional pressure, or unmet needs, not physical restraints.

📍This happens here in the Quad Cities and Davenport.

✅We believe you. What happened to you was not your fault. In FY24 Family Resources received 339 hotline calls for Human Trafficking.

🎗January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month🎗

🛑Human trafficking is often misunderstood. It is not typically the kidnapping scenario we see in movies, and it happens right here in our own communities.

- Only 8% of trafficking situations involve abduction.
- The most common type of trafficking we see in our own communities is through grooming.
- Grooming occurs when a trafficker builds trust with someone who is vulnerable, only to manipulate and exploit them later.

🛑Human trafficking most commonly occurs within:

- Familial relationships
- Romantic relationships
- Online interactions - 60% of trafficking begins on social media

If you or someone you know may be experiencing trafficking, exploitation, or an unhealthy relationship, please reach out. We are here to support you. 💙

Last week, BITCO Insurance Companies donated gifts of diapers and new blankets for our clients for this winter season along with a check for $2,500! Your generosity of essentials will make a difference in the lives of local children and families!

The BITCO Women in Insurance Network and the Old Republic Women in Insurance Network – Iowa Chapter partnered to sponsor a blanket and diaper drive supporting Family Resources.

Over the past several weeks, BITCO Home Office employees generously donated over 40 packages of diapers and approximately 60 blankets. Family Resources, Inc. is a remarkable organization dedicated to supporting children and families, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to contribute to their mission!
