What you eat plays a major role in preventing chronic disease. HHS recommends a healthy eating pattern that includes:

๐Ÿ— A variety of proteins
๐Ÿฅฃ Dairy (without added sugars)
๐Ÿฅ• Vegetables
๐ŸŽ Fruits and healthy fats
๐Ÿฅ— Plenty of fruits and vegetables
๐ŸŒพ Whole grains over refined grains
๐Ÿง€ Dairy options rich in nutrients
๐ŸŸ High-quality, nutrient-dense proteins (beans, nuts, fish, poultry)
๐Ÿง‚ Limited added sugars, sodium, and saturated fats

You don't have to overhaul your entire diet overnight. Start with one swap: whole grain bread instead of white, water instead of soda, an extra serving of veggies at dinner. Small changes, made consistently, add up to big results.

This week we shared 5 steps to prevent chronic disease and protect your health:
โ˜ Take action โ€” prevention is possible
โ˜ Know your family health history
โ˜ Talk to your doctor about preventive care
โ˜ Move more, sit less
โ˜ Fuel your body with healthy foods

Your health is worth it. ๐Ÿ’™

6 in 10 adults in the U.S. have a chronic disease. Heart disease, cancer, and diabetes are leading causes of death, and many of these are preventable. ๐Ÿ’™
You don't need to change everything at once. Start with one:
๐Ÿšถ Take a 20-minute walk today ๐Ÿฅฆ Add one vegetable to your next meal ๐Ÿ’ง Swap one sugary drink for water ๐Ÿ›Œ Aim for 7โ€“9 hours of sleep tonight ๐Ÿšญ If you smoke, make a plan to quit
Small, consistent changes make a real difference over time. What's your one thing today?
