β¨ Letβs Talk About Hypernasal Speech β¨
Hypernasality happens when too much air escapes through the nose during speech, making sounds like /p/, /b/, or /s/ come out nasal.
π‘ A fun exercise is identifying nasal vs. oral sounds πβ‘οΈπ β¦ with a twist!
πΉ Nasal sounds: /m/, /n/, /Ε/ (βngβ) β you should feel vibration in your nose.
πΉ Oral sounds: /p/, /b/, /t/, /k/ β air should come only through your mouth.
π Try this Play-Doh Smash Mat activity:
1οΈβ£ Place your fingers on your nose.
2οΈβ£ Say the word on the mat
3οΈβ£ If itβs nasal β smash Play-Doh on the nose side of the mat.
4οΈβ£ If itβs oral β smash Play-Doh on the mouth side of the mat.
π― This makes practice interactive, gives instant feedback, and helps build awareness of airflow in a motivating way!
