Bi-County Therapy treats pediatric client for Speech, Occupational and Physical therapy. We have bilingual therapists who specialize in the treatment of a variety of disorders. Our philosophy is to cultivate a dual partnership between the therapist and the client/family. In our busy lives, time is of the essence. We strive to achieve results that enable clients to enjoy their lives without having to be concerned about communication or motor deficits.

We’re celebrating Halloween in the sweetest (and safest) way! 🎃

Kids are invited to come dressed in their costumes all week long while they practice social skills and trick-or-treating before the big day! 💬🤝🍭

Throughout the week, children will:
🧙‍♀️ Engage with peers and therapists in fun, structured activities
🎨 Decorate their own goody bags
🗣️ Practice greetings, turn-taking, and conversation skills
🎃 Build confidence while having fun in a supportive environment!

✨ Reminder: Bi-County is a peanut-free facility, so all treats are safe for everyone to enjoy! 🥜🚫

💬 Language goals we can target:
🧠 Vocabulary — naming animals, colors, and Halloween items 🎃
🗣️ Following directions — “Open the orange door!” or “Find the bat!”
👥 Turn-taking — taking turns opening doors & finding items inside! 👻
🗨️ Expanding sentences — “The owl is in the purple door!” 🦉

✨ Let’s Talk About Hypernasal Speech ✨

Hypernasality happens when too much air escapes through the nose during speech, making sounds like /p/, /b/, or /s/ come out nasal.

💡 A fun exercise is identifying nasal vs. oral sounds 👃➡️👄 … with a twist!

🔹 Nasal sounds: /m/, /n/, /ŋ/ (“ng”) — you should feel vibration in your nose.
🔹 Oral sounds: /p/, /b/, /t/, /k/ — air should come only through your mouth.

👉 Try this Play-Doh Smash Mat activity:
1️⃣ Place your fingers on your nose.
2️⃣ Say the word on the mat
3️⃣ If it’s nasal → smash Play-Doh on the nose side of the mat.
4️⃣ If it’s oral → smash Play-Doh on the mouth side of the mat.

🎯 This makes practice interactive, gives instant feedback, and helps build awareness of airflow in a motivating way!
