The San Francisco Public Defender's Office reports a significant increase in misdemeanor cases, with each attorney handling an average of 147 cases. The surge has led to concerns over representation quality, increased need for mentoring, and a rise in jury trials exceeding pre-pandemic levels.

As ProPublica reported last week, most clashes between protesters and police before the Fox News segment did not result in any criminal charges or arrests alleging protesters committed violence. Fox News repeatedly provided a misleading picture of the protests in Portland, Oregon, by using footage from 2020 and mislabeling dates, and portraying protesters as violent when most clashes between protesters and police did not result in any criminal charges or arrests alleging protester violence.
