Welcome back to our weekly series where we highlight the incredible professionals who make up the AMBA community!

This week, we are proud to spotlight Brenda Edwards — a highly respected educator, leader, and mentor in the medical billing and coding community with more than 35 years of healthcare experience.

Brenda has dedicated her career to working closely with practices, providers, and residency programs to ensure accurate and compliant documentation. Her expertise has led to numerous published articles in national industry publications, and her humorous, engaging presentation style has made her a sought-after speaker for AAPC, AMBA, Training Leader, Decision Health, and AAPC local chapters across the country.

She currently leads training for NAMAS and AAPC, where she is passionate about mentoring and developing the next generation of coders, billers, and auditors. Brenda also co-founded the Northeast Kansas (NEKAAPC) AAPC chapter, helping expand local opportunities for education and networking.

Within AMBA, Brenda serves on our National Advisory Board, offering invaluable insight and leadership. She also previously served on the AAPC Chapter Association Board of Directors, further demonstrating her commitment to strengthening the profession at every level.

When she’s not teaching or presenting, Brenda continues to support practices through Crossroads Health Resources, where she provides compliance and documentation guidance.

Introducing a brand-new weekly series where we highlight the incredible professionals who make up the AMBA community!

This week, we are proud to spotlight Lisa Maciejewski-West, CMC, CMOM, CMIS, CPCO-I — a longstanding leader, educator, and advocate in the medical billing world.

With over 40 years of experience, Lisa has been involved in medical billing, management, and consulting since 1982. In 2006, she founded Gold Star Medical Business Services, providing outsourced billing, compliance, and practice management consulting services to physicians and medical practices nationwide.

Lisa’s expertise spans far and wide — she is a certified Medical Coder, Medical Insurance Specialist, Medical Office Manager, and a Certified Professional Compliance Officer, as well as a CPCO Instructor with AAPC. She has taught billing, coding, compliance, and credentialing for medical associations across the country, and is a regular presenter and webinar contributor for numerous organizations.

AMBA members will recognize Lisa as a familiar and valued leader at our national conferences. She and her team led several focus groups in 2022 and 2023, returned as a speaker in 2023 and 2024, and we are honored to have her serve as the Keynote Speaker for the 2025 AMBA National Conference. Lisa also serves on the AMBA National Advisory Board.

Beyond AMBA, in 2023 Lisa was appointed by Governor Greg Abbott to the Board of Directors of the Texas State Office of Risk Management (SORM), where she now serves as Vice-Chair, helping oversee the Workers’ Compensation Fund and statewide insurance programs.

Most importantly, Lisa is the proud mom of 5 children and “Yaya” to 6 grandchildren — a role she loves even more than compliance. 💜
