WHAT'S GOING AROUND?— Each week, we ask our ER physicians what ailments and conditions are commonly being seen in our Emergency Room.

THIS WEEK, Craig Keinath, an emergency physician assistant with McLaren, reports:

Influenza
More and more patients have been testing positive for influenza A, making it the most common reason patients are seeking care in the ED for symptoms of fever, cough, muscle aches, and vomiting.

RSV
Though not yet trending, there have been several patients who have tested positive for RSV, presenting with symptoms of fever and persistent cough.

Strep throat
There has been a growing trend of pediatric patients testing positive for strep throat after experiencing symptoms of a sudden sore throat and fever.

Slip and falls
Continuing icy and wintery conditions continue to send patients to the emergency and trauma center with orthopedic and soft tissue injuries.

Fact: People have a general misconception about the cost of hospice.

Pricing is variable for each of us and our individual circumstances. We find that patients and their providers can be hesitant at first to utilize hospice care because they are unaware of its costs and coverage.

Hospice provides all services to manage their illness symptoms, including physicians, nurses, social workers, aides, spiritual care, therapy, medication, supply, and equipment management, and more. hospice care is covered by most private insurance carriers, Medicare and Medicaid, and we have resources available for those without coverage as well.

WHAT'S GOING AROUND?— Each week, we ask our ER physicians what ailments and conditions are commonly being seen in our Emergency Room.

THIS WEEK, Dr. Glenn DeLong, an emergency physician with McLaren, reports:

Influenza
After a slow start to the traditional flu season, patients testing positive for influenza A and B have begun to trend, with the most patients experiencing symptoms of headache, congestion, drainage, and fatigue.

COVID-19
There has also been an uptick in positive tests for COVID-19. Though with the vast majority of patients experiencing minor symptoms, doctors still encourage those with similar symptoms to take steps to mitigate the spread of the virus.

Slip and falls
Injuries resulting from slip and falls caused by wintery conditions continue to be the most common reason patients are seeking care in the emergency and trauma center.

WHAT'S GOING AROUND?— Each week, we ask our ER physicians what ailments and conditions are commonly being seen in our Emergency Room.

THIS WEEK, Dr. Emily Orille, an emergency physician with McLaren, reports:

URI
While patients are still largely testing negative for the flu, COVID-19, and RSV, many are presenting still with similar symptoms, which are caused by a viral upper respiratory infection and seen mostly in pediatric patients.

Gastro
After weeks of sustained high volumes, patients seeking treatment for viral gastroenteritis have noticeably tapered off.

Ortho
Patients continue to seek care following orthopedic and soft tissue injuries, and those volumes have increased after the arrival of wintery weather.
