Today, I’m sharing a closer look at one of my recent outpatient L5-S1 interlaminar endoscopic discectomy cases. I treated this 33-year-old patient experiencing severe radiculopathy and left leg weakness by making a small incision and inserting an endoscope. This approach provides a direct, magnified view of the affected area, allowing me to accurately target and remove the herniated disc material compressing the nerve root.
 
I was able to access and remove this large (4 cm!!) disc herniation through an incision the size of a standard ballpoint pen. The patient had immediate resolution of symptoms, went home 1 hour after surgery, and returned to full activities within 2 weeks!
 
By preserving surrounding tissues and reducing trauma, this method of surgery minimizes post-operative discomfort and promotes faster recovery. These innovative techniques are making a real difference in patient care!
 
I’m glad to bring access to endoscopic spine surgery to North Georgia. At Specialty Orthopaedics we are the first and only practice in the area to provide access to endoscopic spine surgery to our patients.
