Noticing your child blinking, shrugging, or making little sounds on repeat? 🤔

It might be a tic - and before you panic, take a breath: 👉 Tics are actually pretty common in kids, especially between ages 5–10, and many go away on their own.

But as a parent, it’s natural to wonder: Is this something more?

Here’s what to watch for:

✔️ Sudden, repeated movements (like blinking or head jerking)
✔️ Repeated sounds (like throat clearing or sniffing)
✔️ Tics that come and go, or get stronger with stress or excitement

When to take a closer look:

🚩 Tics last more than a year
🚩 They’re causing pain, frustration, or embarrassment
🚩 They start to impact school, sleep, or daily life
🚩 You notice anxiety, attention issues, or developmental concerns alongside them

💙 Many kids outgrow tics - and if they don’t, there are effective treatments and support options that can make a big difference.

If something feels off, trust your gut. Getting expert guidance can bring clarity (and peace of mind).

But it’s more than numbers — it’s trust.

You buy the Costco-sized box… and suddenly it’s, “I don’t like that anymore.” 🙃 We've all been there!

If you’ve got a picky eater at home, you’re definitely not alone. Most kids go through phases, but sometimes picky eating can be more than just a phase.

🚩 Gagging or throwing up at certain foods
🚩 Fewer than ~20 foods they’ll eat
🚩 Meltdowns around new foods or mealtimes
🚩 Avoiding textures or refusing to eat in social settings

If this sounds familiar, it might be time for a little extra support.

The good news? There are ways to help, and you don’t have to figure it out alone.

👉 Start with your pediatrician or connect with our nutrition experts at the link in the comment below.

So… you said yes to coaching your kid’s team. Now what? ⚽🏀

First - take a deep breath. You don’t need to be an expert to be a great coach. 💙 You just need the right game plan.

Start with safety:

✔️ Always have a well-stocked first aid kit
✔️ Build in warm-ups + cool-downs every practice
✔️ Watch for signs of fatigue or burnout

Help prevent injuries before they happen:

🏃 Focus on proper technique
💬 Encourage kids to speak up about pain or fatigue
😴 Make sure they’re getting rest, sleep, and recovery time

And if an injury happens:

🚨 Stay calm
🚨 Follow emergency protocols
🚨 Don’t rush them back too soon

The part that matters most:

Being a great coach isn’t just about winning games - it’s about creating a space where kids feel safe, supported, and confident.

The right care, when you need it.

Here’s your quick guide to when Kids Express makes the most sense (and when it doesn’t).

🤒 A good rule of thumb is that, when your pediatrician isn’t available, Kids Express is the best choice for minor illnesses including colds, cough, flu, ear infection, pink eye, swimmer’s ear, and more.

🩼 Broken bone, stitches, a baby younger than 6-weeks old? Urgent care or emergency department is your best choice for care.

“My head hurts…” When your child says this, it’s hard to know - is it something small or something more?

Here’s a quick guide to help you know when to pay closer attention 👇

Most headaches in kids are caused by:
• Dehydration
• Sleep changes
• Too much screen time
• Stress

Try this first:
• Water + regular meals
• Consistent sleep
• Less screen time

Call your child’s doctor if:
• Headaches are frequent, severe, or don’t go away
• They happen first thing in the morning
• They affect daily activities

Go to the emergency department if your child has:
• Vision loss, passes out, or uncontrollable vomiting
• A headache lasting more than 3 days

Most headaches aren’t serious - but it helps to know the signs! Save this for later and share with another parent 💛

Now that spring is officially here, we're getting excited for spring sports! 🌹 👟

As kids get back into the game, some soreness is normal - but knowing when it’s more than that can help prevent bigger injuries. At Dayton Children’s, we help families understand the difference between typical soreness and something more serious.

Using a simple 1–3 pain scale, you can better determine when your child can keep playing and when it’s time to rest or seek care.

✔️ Monitor mild soreness
✔️ Rest when pain limits participation
✔️ Seek care when pain stops play
