Dear Valued Clients and Friends,

This year marks a very special milestone for Huber Heights Animal Hospital. On November 2, 2025 ,we celebrate the 66th anniversary of the practice-an animal hispital founded in 1959 by my father, Dr. R. Gordon Perkins, a U.S. Army Veterinary Corps veteran who chose Huber Heights as the place to build both a veterinary practice and family.

I feel incredibly fortunate to have grown up here. I began working at the hospital at just 12 years old, helping care for patients, cleaning kennels, and maintaining the property. Those early experiences shaped my lifelong love for veterinary medicine and this community.

After graduating from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1983, I had the priviledge of working side-by-side with my father. Together, we combined the latest medical knowledge with the practical, compassionate approach he developed through military service and years of mixed-animal practice. As our community grew, so did the hospital, and we proudly transitioned into a small-animal practice serving generations of beloved pets- along with the occasional wildlife patient or exotic animal.

After many rewarding years, I have made the decision to retire from Huber Heights Animal Hospital. While this is a meaningful change for me, I want you to feel fully confident about the future of your pets' care.

The hospital is in excellent hands:
Dr. William Flannery will serve as Medical Director
Dr. Paula Bashe and Dr. Lynn Tuer continue as trusted associate veterinarians
Leslie Jones, our longtime Hospital Manager, leads our exceptional care team with dedication and skill
Each of these individuals has my full confidence and respect.

As i reflect with gratitude, I want to sincerely thank you for the trust you have placed in me and our team to care for your pets-treating each one as if they were our own. It has been an honor to be part of your lives and your pets' stories.

I now look forward to the next chapter: spending time with my wife, Mary, our children Luke, Erin, and Kate, and our grandchildren Sophia and Ben, while continuing to grow in my faith, enjoy my hobbies, and serve the community in new ways.

Thank you for allowing me to be your veterinarian. It has truly been a blessing.

With heartfelt appreciation,
Dr. Kirk G. Perkins

Lepto is more common than many pet owners realize. Dogs can be exposed during everyday activities like walking through puddles or wet grass. As a core vaccine, leptospirosis protection is now recommended for most dogs, regardless of lifestyle. Your veterinary team can help determine the right vaccination plan for your pet.
