Keegan had his 1 year check up with the nephrologist today. His blood pressure is great and he has no additional concerns! The kidney damage does not seem to be negatively impacting anything so as long as his urinalysis comes back ok (and I think it will) he won’t need another check up for another two years!

On our way to Cleveland. Keegan’s post and repeat ultrasound appointment is today.

He passed a blood clot last Wednesday night and has since had a clean urine culture but he’s very swollen above his incision.. in addition to checking for proper healing and no blockages in the ultrasound today, Dr. Donahoe has ordered to check for any fluid buildup.

Keegan is recovering well. His bandage comes off tomorrow. He will be unable to do any physical activity for 4 weeks. He has a slight diet, just avoiding foods that could irritate the bladder (carbonation, chocolate, citrus, and a few others). He has been sleeping a lot. When he’s awake he’s playing Fortnite. He’ll be resuming online school Monday. He has a repete ultrasound and post op appointment on January 11th to make sure everything healed properly.

Keegan went for a walk! He did really well. The doctor put in the discharge papers. We’re just waiting on his IV to finish up and pharmacy to deliver his medicine to go home with.

He doesn’t like this round of IV fluids. It’s potassium chloride which is notorious for burning. They have the IV in his hand so he has a heating pad on it to help. They also gave him 1 more round of IV pain meds and we will give a strong dose of oral pain meds about 30 minutes before we hit the road.

The roads are really bad up here so I’ll take it slow. I’m a little worried about main management in the car since we have at least a 3 1/2 hour drive normally... not including any extra travel time for weather conditions.

The lab came in at 7 this morning made drew blood.
They changed his IV at around 7:30/8, lower output now that he’s alert awake and can drink water. He wanted to stand up so they let him do that.
They took the catheter out about 15/20 minutes ago and just delivered breakfast.

Surgery is done. Dr. Donohoe just came out to talk to me. He said everything went well. They have him good and dosed... Antibiotic and IV pain med plus the nerve block. Usually you want the new tunnel into the bladder 5x the width of the ureter and he was able to do that no problem.. even with the ureters being dilated from the reflux! He said the postop nurse should be waking him up now. I’m waiting on a page with the room number to go back and see him.
