🎭 Facebook Post: Mardi Gras History + Louisiana Roots
Mardi Gras isn’t just a party—it’s history, culture, and tradition. 🎺🎭
Mardi Gras traces its roots back to medieval Europe and came to America through French settlers. The first U.S. Mardi Gras celebration was held in Mobile, Alabama in 1703, followed by Louisiana, where the tradition truly took on a life of its own.
Mardi Gras (or Fat Tuesday) is always the day before Ash Wednesday, which marks the start of Lent. Because Easter changes each year, Mardi Gras moves too—but the joy stays the same.
As a native of Bogalusa and Amite Louisiana, this season hits close to home for me. Mardi Gras is about family, food, music, faith, and community—things we pass down, not just celebrate once a year.
