Research shows that Black women are nearly twice as likely to experience infertility compared to White women, with conditions like uterine fibroids, endometriosis, and PCOS being more common. These conditions are often diagnosed later, reducing treatment options and success rates.

Despite higher rates of infertility, Black women are less likely to access treatment and if they do, may wait twice as long before seeking help. Maternal mortality rates also remain significantly higher for Black women in the U.S.

This Black History Month, as we honor the strides of progress, we must also address the ongoing racial disparities in reproductive healthcare. Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women worldwide, but it is preventable and highly treatable when caught early.

It is largely preventable through HPV vaccination and regular screening, and it can be cured if detected early and treated promptly.

Cervical screening from the age of 30 (25 years in women living with HIV) can detect cervical precancer, and when coupled with timely treatment can prevent progression to cervical cancer.

Raising awareness, improving access to care, and empowering people with information are key to prevention and protecting long term health. 💙
