🩺 Understanding Diabetes: Type 1 vs. Type 2

Diabetes isn’t one-size-fits-all. Knowing the difference matters — especially when it comes to prevention, management, and foot health.

🧬 Type 1 Diabetes
• Often diagnosed in childhood or young adulthood
• The body does not produce insulin
• Not caused by diet or lifestyle
• Requires insulin for life
• Makes up about 5–10% of diabetes cases

🍽️ Type 2 Diabetes
• More commonly diagnosed in adults (but now seen in children too)
• The body produces insulin but doesn’t use it effectively
• Influenced by genetics, activity level, and nutrition
• Managed with lifestyle changes, medications, and sometimes insulin
• Accounts for about 90–95% of diabetes cases

👉 Both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes can impact your feet, circulation, and nerve health. Regular foot exams help prevent ulcers, infections, and amputations. Diabetes doesn’t have to limit your life — but ignoring your feet can.

Education + early care = better outcomes. Period.

🛑🏡 Attention Homeowners in Montgomery County!
Did you know there’s a FREE alert system to help protect your property from fraud? The Montgomery County Recorder’s Office offers the Fraud Alert Notification (FAN) System — if someone tries to record a document on your property (like a deed or mortgage) without your knowledge, you’ll be notified right away by mail or email. 

👉 Why this matters:
• Fraudulent deeds and property claims are rising — someone could try to make it look like they own your home when they don’t. 
• By enrolling your property in the FAN system, you’re adding a layer of protection.
• If you see a notification you didn’t expect — act fast. Contact the Recorder’s Office and secure your home.

📲 How to get started:
1. Visit the Montgomery County Recorder’s website and look for the “Fraud Alert Notification (FAN) System” link. 
2. Search by parcel number, owner name, or address to find the property you want to monitor. 
3. Register the property and provide your contact info (email or mailing address) so alerts come to you. 
4. Stay alert! If you get a notice you weren’t expecting — don’t ignore it.

✅ Pro tip (from your friendly podiatrist-turned-property-watchdog): Just like checking your feet regularly for issues, monitor your property records regularly too. Preventative care isn’t only for your ankles!

👣 Do You Know the Difference Between Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes? 👣

This type usually develops early in life. The body’s immune system attacks the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas — meaning insulin must be taken daily.

This type often develops later in life and is linked to lifestyle factors such as diet, weight, and activity level. The body still makes insulin, but it doesn’t use it properly (called insulin resistance).
