History lesson, anyone? ๐๐ค
1906 Brown St. is a historic building that has lived many lives before becoming Tend & Flourish.
๐๏ธ 1904- The Rubicon Presbyterian Church was founded.
๐๏ธ 1906- The Rubicon Presbyterian Church was renamed the Patterson Memorial Presbyterian Church, in honor of the Patterson family who funded the construction of the building. The church was built where we are now, at 1906 Brown St.!
๐๏ธ 1925- The Patterson Memorial Presbyterian Church grew, and eventually relocated to a larger building nearby.
๐๏ธ 1928- 1906 Brown St. relinquished itโs title as a church, and became home to the Oakwood Upholstery Company. Later this year, the owner of this company was injured while unloading furniture in a hit & run incident just outside the storefront. He fully recovered, but the business did not.
๐๏ธ 1931- Grocer Kingโs Market temporarily utilized the space at 1906 Brown St. while their store location was being replaced by a new building.
๐๏ธ 1932- General Furniture & Upholstering Co leased 1906 Brown St., eventually purchasing the property in 1933. The name eventually changed to Jollayโs Furniture Store.
๐๏ธ 1947- After the owner of the property passed away, 1906 Brown St. was sold in probate court.
๐๏ธ 1950- The property became a paint store & new renovations/building expansions were also added.
๐๏ธ 1980โs- 1906 Brown St. became the Bockrath Oriental Rug Gallery.
๐๏ธ Now- 1906 Brown St. currently houses Tend & Flourish, a collective of small, women-owned businesses in the fields of art & wellness!
