Prolonged sitting (especially with poor posture or something in your back pocket) - Here’s why, and what to watch out for:
•Sitting for long periods causes increased pressure on the lower spine and the nearby nerves (including the sciatic nerve)
•Sitting with a hard object in your back pocket (wallet, phone, keys) can create asymmetry or tilt in the pelvis, irritate the Piriformis muscle (under which the sciatic nerve passes)
•Tight-fitting clothes or belts/waistbands create extra compression and can press on structures related to the sciatic nerve.
🛠 How to minimize Pain: 🙌
• Standup every 30 to 60 minutes
• Remove hard objects from your back pocket when sitting
•Include stretches in the morning and the evening to release muscles in the hips and back
•When driving 🚖 : for every two hours on the road, take 10 minutes to walk around.
• Turn down the lumbar support on your car
• When driving, make sure your knees are parallel to your hips not too high, not too low
