We're excited to announce that Thomas O'Leary, Jr. will be the Grand Marshal for the 2026 Springfield St. Patrick's Parade on March 14, 2026.
Thomas J. O’Leary, Jr. moved to Delaware County at the age of two and spent his life rooted in faith, family, and community. He attended Holy Cross, Monsignor Bonner, and Saint Joseph’s University, shaping a lifelong dedication to Catholic education and service. Tom proudly served his country as a Vietnam veteran in the U.S. Navy, where he worked as a corpsman.
In 1972, Tom married the love of his life, Carol Dougherty. Their marriage marked the beginning of a lifetime devoted to family, community, and service to others.
In 1976, Tom opened O’Leary Funeral Home, Ltd., which has served families throughout Delaware County and the Philadelphia area with dignity, compassion, and respect for more than 40 years.
Together, Tom and Carol raised six children and were deeply involved in their church, schools, and local community. Tom was an active volunteer with the Primos/Secane Fire Company, the Knights of Columbus, and the Kiwanis Club, serving these organizations for many years, often as Treasurer. He also dedicated his time as Treasurer for Cardinal O’Hara’s Home and School Association and the annual Alumni Fair.
Tom’s commitment to community service was recognized through numerous honors, including the prestigious Green Jacket from the Sons of St. Patrick and his induction into the Ring of Honor of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Philadelphia. In 2021, Tom and Carol were recipients of the Mark and Jeanne Cordes Award, which honors individuals who demonstrate exceptional support of Catholic education. Additionally, the Delaware County Advisory Board for Elementary Catholic Education recognized O’Leary Funeral Home for its longstanding dedication to service within the community.
Under Tom’s leadership as Supervisor, O’Leary Funeral Home became known not only for its professionalism, but for its generosity and active involvement in the life of Delaware County, a legacy of service that continues today.
