✨ Meet Caitlin! ✨

We’re so excited to welcome Caitlin to the Wisconsin Tongue Tie Institute team! 💛

Caitlin is a former labor & delivery nurse and an IBCLC, with years of experience supporting families through birth, postpartum, and feeding journeys. She brings evidence-based care, compassion, and a deep understanding of what families are navigating—both professionally and personally.

She’s a mom of four, married to her high school sweetheart, and also shares her home with two mini dachshunds and a couple of chickens! When she’s not supporting families, you’ll find her camping, running marathons, or enjoying a good book (or knitting project!).

Caitlin has breastfed all four of her children and has firsthand experience with tethered oral tissue releases, which fuels the empathy and patience she brings to every family she works with.

We’re honored to have her on our team and can’t wait for you to meet her!

✨ Monday Mythbusters ✨

Myth: “If a baby is gaining weight, feeding must be fine.”

Let’s break this one down.

Weight gain is one piece of the puzzle, but it doesn’t tell the whole story. Babies are incredibly adaptable, and many will work extra hard at the breast or bottle to compensate for oral dysfunction — tongue tie, poor latch, swallowing air, inefficient sucking patterns, or tension in the body.

Sometimes they gain weight despite struggling.

Here are a few signs we look for beyond the scale:
• Long, exhausting feeding sessions
• Frequent feeds with short breaks
• Clicking or leaking milk
• Gassiness, reflux, or lots of air swallowing
• Maternal pain, ni**le damage, or clogged ducts
• Baby seeming frustrated, pulling off, or appearing uncomfortable
• Slow bottle feeds that never feel “easy”

Feeding should feel:
✔ Comfortable
✔ Calm
✔ Efficient
✔ Sustainable for both baby and parent

If feeding feels hard — even if baby is gaining weight — that’s a signal worth paying attention to. You deserve support, clarity, and a plan that works for your family. 💛
