Happy 30th Birthday to the brightest light to ever shine, Dr. Marissa✨

What can't we say about this woman?! She does it all. She gives one heck of an adjustment, she genuinely listens and is fully present for whoever she's with, she is excellent at communicating the science and art of chiropractic, she's always eager to learn and grow more, and she does it ALL with a smile.

She's the most easy going human being and we are all just so blessed by her positive + laid back attitude. She gives all of herself to her patients, her team, her work and our mission and that means more than we could ever say! 🥰

Dr. Marissa also just celebrated TWO years at Lux Life! Two years down and we hope forever to go!

Unpopular opinion: It’s not random when a child develops eczema or anxiety after multiple rounds of antibiotics in the first years of life.

Let’s get nerdy a little bit and talk about the gut microbiome! 🦠

The gut microbiome is made up of trillions of microorganisms in the digestive tract! It performs several vital functions, including digesting food, producing vitamins, and regulating the immune system (which influences eczema and allergic tendencies). It is a HUGE player in the Gut-Brain axis and influences mood, stress responses, and emotional regulation. It helps the body absorb nutrients, prevents disease-causing bacteria from taking hold, and influences metabolism and overall health!! So it does quite a bit for us! 💥

Now, when our kiddos take antibiotics these wipe out the “bad” bacteria that is making us sick in that moment, but it ALSO wipes out the “good” bacteria! So when antibiotics repeatedly wipe out microbial diversity during these critical developmental windows, kids can become more prone to inflammation, skin issues, sensitivities, and anxious physiology. We may see some of these symptoms right away or it make take some time before we see the effects.

This doesn’t mean antibiotics are “bad.” They definitely have a time and a place! It means they have effects … and understanding those effects empowers parents to support the body afterward with nourishment and microbiome-friendly habits!

So, some things that you can do to support your kiddos gut microbiome if they end up having to take antibiotics!

- Get them adjusted!! We can talk all day about how this impacts our immune and nervous system function!
- Take a good Probiotic! (Ask us for some recommendations if you have questions)
- A balanced diet to support their gut in the present and future! Limit sugar!
- Sunshine and sleeeeep 💤
