Three million children under the age of eighteen have some type of hearing loss according the the American Academy of Otolaryngology, this includes four out of every 1000 newborns. This is why the Newborn Hearing Screening program was developed and is implemented throughout the United States, allowing for quicker identification of children born with hearing loss. This enables the family, working with professionals, to ensure the best outcome for their child. Your child most likely had a hearing screening before they left the hospital to ensure they were hearing well.

: Come in for a hearing screening!
It’s good to catch hearing loss before it becomes difficult to live with. Although hearing loss is a slow but sure process, it’s best to keep track of where your hearing is. You can schedule a hearing screening with one of our audiologists today!

: Stay hydrated!
Dizziness can be caused by dehydration. That means drinking plenty of water, not caffeine or alcohol, which causes further problems.

Wearing hearing protection at a concert, the shooting range, or even sporting events will protect your ears from hearing loss.

The board certified surgeons at Southeast Michigan Ear, Nose, and Throat offer a variety of cosmetic procedures. Some of these procedures are performed in the operating room and other procedures can be performed in the office with no anesthesia. Office treatments include BOTOX® and filler injections. BOTOX® is a muscle relaxer which greatly reduces wrinkles in the face and takes only a few minutes to complete. All BOTOX® injections and fillers are done by experienced board certified surgeons and not ancillary staff. Our surgeons are experts in the appearance and function of the nose and perform rhinoplasty surgery in addition to other facial plastic and reconstruction surgeries. They are able to achieve results that are both aesthetically beautiful and functional.

: Wear protective sports gear!
It may seem obvious, but it still needs to be reinforced. When your kids and loved ones are playing sports, they should wear protective gear to help prevent concussions. Although this doesn’t stop concussions completely, it does help considerably.

: Flush out the nose and sinuses!
Every now and then, it’s good to flush out the sinuses of any pollen or dust. This prevents allergic reactions or sinus infections. For those that deal with year-round allergies or even chronic sinusitis, it may be best to rinse the sinuses more often. One great tool is the Neti Pot, an irrigation bottle and water dispenser that you can find at any pharmacy or drugstore. Make sure to use filtered water though, not tap.

Acid reflux and GERD actually have the potential to cause esophageal cancer. Not only that, but it damages the lining of the esophagus. Things like smoking and drinking can also cause esophageal cancer.

Dr. Doryce Iverson received her Masters Degree in Audiology from The Ohio State University in 1993, and her Doctorate in Audiology (AuD) from Central Michigan University in 2006. She holds a Michigan Audiology license, a Certificate of Clinical Competency from The American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA), and is also a member of the American Academy of Audiology.
