Meet Mary Catherine Betts, our Resident of the Month for August! She was born in Detroit on April 8, 1929. She grew up going to All Saints school in Detroit and then moved to Saint Gabriel. In high school, she worked at Woolworth's. For many years, Mary would "take the green bus, get off and go to work at Detroit Transmission. I loved it, and they loved me!" she said. She would do office work, keeping the records accurate and organized. She also worked at the Detroit Convention Bureau.

Mary married the love of her life, Robert Betts. "He was in the neighborhood," she recalls. They wed, on February 3, 1951, and had 7 kids together and were married for almost 70 years! Robert sadly passed away 1 day before their 70th anniversary in 2021. Their union created 17 grandchildren and 18 (and counting!) great-grandchildren. Mary's daughters are Linda, Donna, Margaret, and Rose and Mary's sons are Jim, Greg, and Robert.

In her free time, Mary loved to crochet, knit, and play the piano! She is an avid sports fan, keeping up with the Tigers, Red Wings, and Pistons. She also likes to do puzzles. Mary was involved in a craft club once a month and looked forward to her bunco club.

Reflecting on her life, Mary says, "I got along with everyone. I love my family. My daughter married the boy down the street. I don't know... I just carried on. My big deal was Detroit Transmission." Her daughter Linda recalls her mom as a fun person who has always been there for all her children, four of which are legally blind and don't drive. Despite everything, "we do alright." Congratulations to Mary Betts on being our Resident of the Month! ❤️ 😊

Meet our Resident of the Month... Mildred Reed! She was born on October 24,1934 in Hamtramck, Michigan. She loves her 3 brothers, Jesse, Richard, and Samuel. Mildred enjoyed her job at Northville State Hospital, a psychiatric hospital where she worked for 17 years! She says, "They're not as crazy as people make them out to be, some of them are very nice people!" Mildred was married twice. Her first husband, Thomas, she met because they stayed on the same street and married when she was 19 years old. She had two daughters, Donna and Darlesta, who she adores as well as her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her second husband's name was W***y. Both husbands worked at the Ford Factory. Mildred loved to sew and prided herself in creating all of her girls' clothes! She also bowled on two bowling leagues, "I used to bowl my @$$ off!" she said. Mildred is involved in all of our group activities and her down to earth sense of humor is refreshing to be around. We congratulate Mildred Reed on being our July Resident of the Month!! 😊🎳

Staff and residents had a fabulous time at our first day of Summer extravaganza! Dean, senior director, got soaked multiple times in the dunk tank while others played patio games, listened to music and enjoyed slushies and popcorn. It was a perfect launch of Summer! 🌞🍿😎🥤

Meet Marge Simpson, our June Resident of the Month!
Marge was born in Washington DC in 1943. She lived in Maple Heights, Ohio, and Dearborn, Michigan. She worked after college taking applications for Medicare and then as a supervisor at Child Protective Services until retirement. Marge has been active in her church since childhood. She's been a lay speaker which is a program where a lay member does sermons when the pastor is absent.
On that note, Marge would like to begin a Sunday worship service. She'd like 2 or more to be willing to sing hymns, a person to read scripture, and Marge will do the sermons on how the scripture relates to us. For those who cannot attend, a copy of the scripture and sermon could be given.
Marge enjoys being around her roommate, Virginia, and always holds her good friend's happiness as a priority.
Congratulations Marge Simpson on being our June Resident of the Month! 😃🎉🤩
