BLVD NEXT x Thriving Together Atlanta — Saturday, March 28
Mobile Art Experience & Construction Wrap Unveiling

On Saturday, March 28, BLVDNEXT, Wellstar, The Integral Group, Bloomberg Philanthropies, the City of Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs, National Black Arts Festival (NBAF), and NEXT present a one-day community arts activation in Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward celebrating the arrival of the Thriving Together Atlanta Mobile Art Experience and the unveiling of the BLVDNEXT construction art wrap at the former Atlanta Medical Center site.

Produced and curated by NEXT, the event will transform the development into a vibrant open-air cultural commons—bringing together artists, healers, and community through art, storytelling, wellness, and connection.

At the center is the Thriving Together Mobile Art Bus, an immersive traveling gallery featuring portraits by photographer E. Iyahdae Rose, alongside documentary film and audio reflections from Atlanta artists, healing practitioners, and community leaders exploring health, equity, creativity, and collective wellbeing.

The event also marks the public unveiling of the BLVDNEXT construction art wrap, transforming the site perimeter into a bold, large-scale gallery featuring the faces and stories of Thriving Together Atlanta participants shaping the cultural and civic life of the city.

From 1–4 PM, experience live performances and activations including:

Adan Bean, poet and storyteller

Bria Anai, vocalist and performance artist

Day 17: Shoulder Bridge

Four apprentices. One bridge. Zero lazy glutes allowed.

Shoulder Bridge looks deceptively simple and then you actually do it. You’re peeling the spine up bone by bone, finding length through the front of the hip, and holding everything together from the powerhouse while your glutes do the work they were built for.

The kick variation? That’s where it gets spicy. One leg extends long while the other holds the bridge. Your hips want to drop. Your spine wants to rotate. The answer to both is the powerhouse.

Here’s proof that the classics hit different.

Day 16: High Scissors & High Bicycle

Long legs, steady hips, and a powerhouse that has absolutely no chill.

These two will find every single thing you haven’t figured out yet. Ask me how I know 😬!

High Scissors is all opposition. One leg reaches down, one pulls back, you switch and somehow your hips are supposed to stay perfectly still through all of that chaos.

High Bicycle adds a bend to the mix because apparently scissors alone wasn’t humbling enough. Now you’re reaching, folding, AND extending while your hips play statue. The audacity of this exercise 🤣!

Here’s the journey in today’s clip:

Spine Corrector – High Scissors. The elevation makes sure you can’t fake anything. It knows.

My new – High Scissors flows into High Bicycle. Same rules, new level.

Are these a work in progress? One hundred percent yes. Showing up anyway? Also yes.

That’s the thing about Pilates, the learning IS the practice.

Day 15: Neck Pull

This is not a sit-up.

Neck Pull is one of the most demanding abdominal exercises in the mat series, and the name is doing it zero favors. Your hands are behind your head, yes. But the work is happening from your powerhouse, not your neck. The elbows stay wide, the spine articulates bone by bone, and you resist on the way back down just as hard as you came up.

Four apprentices with four different body types on the mat today….figuring out the same thing: how to get long AND strong at the same time.

Day 12: Swan Dive

Swan Dive is a full-body rocking extension…diving forward into a controlled fall and using the powerhouse and posterior chain to catch yourself and ride back up. It’s equal parts trust, strength, and timing.

Today’s variation is on the Spine Corrector, which elevates the hips and gives the glutes a reason to show UP. If your glutes tend to check out, like mine 😬🤦🏽‍♀️ in extension work, this apparatus won’t let them. Mine were firing the entire time. 🔥

This clip is from a private session with my teacher trainer, and yes, this was my first time doing Swan Dive. I’m documenting it because we all start somewhere, and I want to look back on this moment when it feels like second nature.

That’s the Pilates journey. For me, starting on a Spine Corrector just trying not to face-plant. 😅

Follow along and let’s grow together.

Day 9 of : Open Leg Rocker

Balance. Control. A little bit of faith that you won’t roll off the back of your mat.

Open Leg Rocker is all about finding your powerhouse before you move because if you just throw yourself back and hope for the best… well, we’ve all been there 😅!

We’re showing you three ways:

has the Magic Circle between the ankles, for that extra inner thigh engagement and a little “please don’t drop this” motivation

I have hands behind thighs, which gives more support and a great place to start

has hands behind ankles…a longer lever and more challenge

No matter where your hands land, the goal is the same: scoop, roll, and return with control. The rocking is a result of your powerhouse working, not just momentum having its way with you.

Where are your hands today?

We made it to Day 7 and your powerhouse is about to earn it!

Double Leg Stretch demands a lot: your powerhouse has to hold everything together while your arms AND legs reach away from your center at the same time. Yeah. It’s a lot 😵‍💫!

This one is all about opposition. Your core stays stable and grounded while your limbs lengthen in opposite directions (remember that two-way stretch 👀) building strength, coordination, and that deep abdominal connection we’re always chasing in Pilates. And we’re showing on three different apparatuses.

Spine Corrector (shown by me): Supports spinal articulation while you find that length

🔹 Mat (shown by ):
The classic that is just you, the mat, and your powerhouse holding on for dear life

🔹 Wunda Chair (shown by ): Adds a whole new level of challenge when the apparatus gets involved

Day 6 of March Matness and stretching it out 🔥!

Single Leg Stretch is deceptively challenging. It looks like a stretch BUT it’s not JUST a stretch!

Your center has to stay fired up while your limbs move away from your body in opposition to find the two way stretch.

That’s the Pilates principle of centering doing its job: everything radiates out from a stable, engaged core.

Add in the breath, the coordination of switching legs, and the concentration it takes to keep your pelvis neutral while your body wants to wobble? You’ve got 6 Pilates principles packed into one move.

We’re showing you three ways to experience it today:

Gabbi on the Mat — the classic

I’m on the Spine Corrector — adding spinal feedback

Guyesha on the Wunder Chair — where the powerhouse has nowhere to hide

Same exercise. Very different conversations with your body.

Day 5 of March Matness and we’re rolling. 🎱🔥

Don’t let the name Rolling Like a Ball fool you. This is not playtime. (okay… maybe a little.) 😌

Watch how we each bring something different to the mat:

Gabbi and I are holding the shape with pure body control, finding that deep c-curve and trusting the abdominals to do their job. Guyesha has the Magic Circle tucked just above the back of her heels and pressed against the back of her thighs, maintaining connection, keeping the ball tight, and making sure nothing gets lazy in there.

Same roll but a completely different conversation with your body.

Here’s what Rolling Like a Ball is doing for you while you’re trying not to crash into your own shoulders:

→ Massaging the spine one vertebra at a time
→ Deepening the c-curve and firing the powerhouse
→ Building balance and body awareness from the inside out
→ Teaching your body to move as one connected, controlled unit

The goal isn’t just to roll. It’s to stay in the tight ball with connection and intention.

The second you lose that shape, your abdominals just clocked out. And we don’t clock out here. 😤

Day 5. March Matness. We keep rolling. 🎱💫
