How do you know when youโre ready for return to running? Here are a few tests we use with our patients to determine if they are safe to return:
๐ Long Lever Bridge: Looking to maintain 30 seconds with a straight trunk position and hip extended
๐โโ๏ธ Calf Raise: Looking for a full calf raise 1 per second
Age: 20-30 yo: 35+ reps; 30-40 yo: 30+ reps; 40-50 yo: 25+ reps
๐โโ๏ธ Lateral Step Down: Looking at hip stability, ability to load through the anterior knee, and ankle dorsiflexion mobility
๐ Bulgarian Split Squat: Looking at whether you can maintain good hip/knee/ankle alignment, a hip vs. quad dominant pattern, and balance
๐โโ๏ธ 1 Leg Hop: Looking for tolerance of single leg loading, hip and trunk stability, calf fatigue, and if there is asymmetry between sides
