Long-term use of some common acid-reducing medications (proton pump inhibitors) may be linked to weakened bones and an increased risk of hip fractures when taken for more than a year.

Examples include omeprazole (Prilosec), Nexium, and Prevacid.

✅ Use the lowest effective dose

✅ Limit duration when possible (often around 6 weeks unless directed otherwise)

✅ Ask about calcium supplementation if you take these medications long term

This week’s recommendation: Vitamin D and Mortality risk

Why I’m recommending it:

👉 Recent studies from the European Institute of Oncology conducted in France and Italy have concluded that taking Vitamin D supplements may lower risk of death. The study showed that people taking Vitamin D had a 7% lower risk of death.

Good to know:

✔️ Based of these recent positive studies, the role of Vitamin D could inhibit carcinogenesis or boost immune function.
✔️ Moderate sun exposure as well as supplementation may benefit you!
