We have offered speech, language, and behavioral services to families throughout Atlanta since 2001. We take a passionate approach to the whole child and the whole family and offer functional activities for achievable goals. Our vision is to empower and educated families with support, knowledge, and confidence to carry over activities to ensure successful outcomes. We want to develop functional communication, on all levels, together.

This beautiful group of humans on this beautiful weekend learned and diacussed inclusion and diversity (and a little self love)! Our story was called and our take home message included these points:

Know your own stripes

Love your own stripes

Recognize others stripes

Embrace and love all stripes

Without your stripes, you would not be YOU

Without their stripes, they would not be THEM. Sometimes its a package deal!

Honor and respect all stripes (even the things that are hard for them/us)

If we cant identify and love *all* of our own stripes, then how on Earth can we love the whole person in others?

*We.Are.Not.Our.Thoughts*

Last weekend with KindTreeKids was not only beautiful weather but a very beautiful topic that reminds us we are so much more than those pesky, unhelpful thoughts. We learned to acknowledge those unwanted thoughts, offer it just enough space to say "oh hello there" and then let it go. This gives us more room for gathering helpful and wanted thoughts.

It's so easy to forget that these unhelpful thoughts are so often untrue and won't matter tomorrow...even though they feel so alive and loud in our minds! This is our friendly reminder that we can build skills to develop the agency of how to respond to ALL of our thoughts.

What a wonderful weekend we had as we learned about managing frustrations. I think it's pretty profound to read over these lists generated by kids ages 11 and under (!!!) in terms of what anger looks and feels like on the inside and outside. And then to really shine, they shared the ways in which they can find their calm. I have always said, awareness is the first and most important step and these kids are showing sophisticated awareness. Even if they arent finding those tools in the moment, I want us to reflect on our current adult lives and remember that we *also* don't always access the tools in the moment. It's a journey. And they're working hard to build awareness to catch the "flames" before it grows into a big 🔥! We can imagine that we are firefighters and use our tools as the 💧 to help keep the anger (flames) managed. May we all access our inner firefighters 🚒!!!

We kicked off Social Saturdays and Sundays last weekend exploring the question: helpful or harmful?

We have a CHOICE! Finding that tiny pause before we make the choice, is honestly, the hardest part. BUT we can practice streeeeetcccchiiinnng the space between our initial sensation/experience and our responses.

STOP ---- THINK ---- ACT

Ask ourselves:

Are my thoughts/words/actions helpful or harmful?

Will my thoughts/words/actions be helpful for EVERYONE involved?

What would happen if EVERYONE made this choice?

Will my thoughts/words/actions make things better or worse?
