There is no shortage of suffering in the world right now.
And also—there is no shortage of care and people showing up. 🤍

When everything feels loud, fast, and heavy, your nervous system doesn’t need more information. It needs connection.

Here are a few ways to breathe deeper and stay connected—even while the world feels like it’s unraveling:

• Name what’s real. You’re not “too sensitive”! You’re paying attention.
• Move your body with intention, not punishment. Strength, walk, rest—it all counts.
• Lengthen your exhales. Sigh. Hum. Make sound. Let your body know you’re present in the moment.
• Regulate in relationship. Nervous systems heal faster together.
• Rest like it matters—because it does.
Lastly…
• Connect where you can. Donate money if you have it. Offer time if you can. Share knowledge, skills, or care. All of it matters.

At DRiFT, we believe care ripples outward. Taking care of yourself helps you take care of others—and being in community reminds us we don’t have to carry it alone.

“Are these for donations?” The cashier asked as she rang up the second 20-pack of Irish soap bars.

I had wandered Costco for over an hour, working from a list created by local mutual aid organizers, trying to stretch each dollar from DRiFT donations as far as possible. Soap or lotion? Bars or liquid? The formula that’s cheaper, or the one a baby can actually keep down. Each of these decisions reminders that ICE’s harm reaches into kitchens, classrooms, and cribs.

“Yeah,” I replied somberly. “Yeah, it is.”

“There is a lot of those today,” she said, matching my tone.

And there is was; the irony of this moment. These donations, supplies easy to spot based on the necessity of them, are a reminder that the horrors of 🧊 persist in Minnesota and beyond.

AND alongside this harm, there are people everywhere leading the response: organizers, neighbors, teachers, families — reducing harm where they can and refusing to let fear have the last word. Remember, we each have the power each day to extend yoga off the mat — to do something everyday; small ripples that can accumulate into big shifts (ripples phrase inspired by and a recent podcast: Interruptin Business as Usual, EP 58).

DRiFT has raised more than $2,000 in cash and supplies being hand delivered to homes in Minnesota. Continue to call your reps. Have meaningful conversations with your loved ones. Stay connected to each other.

DRiFT Strength & Yoga Center is participating in the National Strike on Friday, January 30th.

Standing in solidarity includes action. During the strike on Friday, all classes are FREE and open to all who need a place to move and breathe in community.

Donations are welcome Friday & Saturday (never required) and will go directly to Faribault families and Minneapolis communities terrorized by ICE. In studio, or Venmo .

Friday’s Strike Schedule:
5:30am Sculpt CircHIIT 50
For when the state of the world has you holding rage in your body. Sweat. Lift. Breathe hard. Move it out.

8:30am Mindful Vinyasa
A class for ease, steadiness and grounding. Slow, gentle movement to calm your nervous system.

There is not more we can say that hasn’t already been said, and yet it’s important to be damn clear on DRiFT’s stance with the current occupation in Minnesota and 🧊’s presence across the country.

Yoga is a practice of collective liberation and unity. It was created by people of color in South Asia thousands of years ago. The wisdom of millennia, held and passed through Black and Brown lived experiences, wisdom, communities, tribes, and teachers, is the reason DRiFT exists today.

One of the pillars of wisdom passed down to us by this ancient wisdom is Ahimsa, or radical compassion. While often translated as “do no harm,” we understand Ahimsa as a call to go further: to disrupt harm and to act in care of one another.

So, we say this with our full chest, because movement, yoga, and being alive are never neutral, DRiFT stands not only with our neighbors to the north, but with all communities and people experiencing harm: physical, emotional, or otherwise, at the hands of 🧊 and this administration.

As we prepare to safeguard our community for whatever happens, this page will remain clear in our values: the privilege of movement is never more important than the safety of anyone. We will share community call-ins, mutual aid efforts, and ways to support our Driftless immigrant families.

Today we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Dr. King reminded us, not through perfection, but through persistence, that justice is not something we inherit automatically. It is something we practice and recommit to, especially when progress feels fragile or reversed.

It would be dishonest to say we are moving forward in all the ways he envisioned. Many systems remain closed, unequal, and actively moving backward. Access to safety, to health, to rest, to movement, is still unevenly distributed. And so, the work continues.

At DRiFT Strength & Yoga Center, we believe movement can be one way people reconnect: to their bodies, to one another, and to the shared responsibility of care for all. When movement is accessible, it becomes more than exercise. It becomes a language of collective healing.

Today, we reflect on how we show up:
Who is welcomed into our spaces?
Who feels seen, supported, and safe to move their bodies?
Where can we do better?

Honoring Dr. King means staying engaged even when the work is uncomfortable. It means choosing connection over complacency and action over silence...again and again.

01/13/2026

Across Minnesota, in the Twin Cities and in small communities like Faribault, an increased ICE presence is creating fear that is terrorizing immigrant families (and communities). Parents are staying home. Families are afraid to be visible in public spaces. Even places that are safe once inside, like schools or their places of employment, can feel unsafe to attend or show up for.

Faribault is a Minnesota community that shares so much with towns like Decorah, Iowa: close-knit neighborhoods, strong schools, early childhood programs, and families raising young children who want connection and belonging. These are communities where people show up for one another, and right now, that matters deeply.

This post is a call to action, shared by a friend of Laree’s, to support a community we share so much with: a belief that everyone deserves dignity and care.

In yoga, we practice ahimsa: non-harming. Ahimsa asks us to disrupt when harm is happening, to lessen suffering where we can, and to remember our shared humanity. This practice doesn’t end when we roll up our mats.

Local organizers have come together with Faribault Supporting Families (FSF) to meet this moment with action. Their work includes:
• Supporting families who are temporarily homebound
• Coordinating volunteers to shop, deliver food and essentials, and run errands
• Encouraging school safety communication and neighborhood support
• Building an Emergency Family Support Fund

This fund—fiscally hosted by the trusted Community Action Center—will help cover urgent needs such as:
• Immigration legal and application fees
• Translation and notarization services
• Travel for immigration-related appointments
• Emergency rent or housing assistance
• Support for children and families impacted by detention or deportation

How you can respond to this call:
• Donate to the FSF Emergency Fund QR code pictured
•Venmo Laree at
• Inviting folks in your orbit into a conversation and action
• Share this post to widen the circle of care

At DRiFT Strength & Yoga Center, we believe yoga is about connection to self and one another. When small towns stand together in compassion, fear loses its power.

We’re really excited to welcome Emily Stuber (she/her) back to DRiFT this January for a two-night workshop series focused on breath, awareness, and sustainable movement. A familiar face in Decorah thanks to her Laree’s nearly fifteen year old friendship, Emily has been studying and guiding movement for nearly 15 years, with a grounded, accessible approach that meets people where they are.

Breathwork: Feel & Reflect
Thursday, January 8 | 5:00–8:30 PM
In this workshop, breath becomes a steady support for your nervous system. You’ll be guided through simple breathing practices designed to help you settle, reflect, and reconnect; without pushing or forcing anything. Expect space to slow down and notice what’s already there.

Intro to Somatics
Friday, January 9 | 5:00–8:30 PM
This session invites you to explore movement from the inside out. Through gentle, intentional practices, you’ll learn to listen more closely to your body and soften habitual tension. Rediscover how your body wants to move.

Workshop(s) Pricing
$65 for one workshop
$115 for both

Emily is also teaching a couple regularly scheduled DRiFT Classes:
Thursday • January 8th: 11:30a Core Vinyasa Fusion
Saturday • January 10th: 8:00 Dynamic Vinyasa

📍 DRiFT Strength & Yoga Center (third floor of Impact Coffee)

These evenings are an invitation to pause, tune in, and move with more awareness—on the mat and beyond.
