With insurance billing, there are Denied Claims and Rejected Claims, do you know the difference?
Denied is a claim that was processed and the insurance company has decided the claim is unpayable.
Rejected is a claim that has not been processed due errors discovered on the claim.
In both cases the insurance company will send the provider an EOB with an explanation of the problem. Both types of claims can be resubmitted, but with different procedures. With a rejected claim, we need to correct the errors and resubmit. With the denied claim, it must be appealed before resubmitting for payment. Denied claims can cost the practice much more money and time to correct.
