Is it a test, exam, eye check? People get very creative with wording these days, so be careful. You may pay less if you stay at home and try to do a virtual eye "test", but, what are you getting? Most of the time they just "test" to see if you need a prescription or not, and tell you your eyes look good. But did they check your eyes, or your prescription? Those are two different thing. At Deer Park Vision Source we preform annual comprehensive eye examinations. Key words - comprehensive and examination. This means that we comprehensively look at your eye as a whole and examine every part of it. Your lens for cataracts, your macula for degeneration, your cornea for dry eye or tears, your pressure for glaucoma, and yes, your prescription too. So just be aware of what is out there, and people getting creative with their wording trying to scam you.

Sunglasses aren't just for summer! Here in the PNW we need them handy 365 days of the year. We never know what the weather is going to be doing one minute to the next. If you can see your shadow, you need sunglasses!

A good reminder from Dr. Jeremy. Even if you aren't at work and required to wear safety glasses, it is a good idea to protect your eyes.
We see eye emergency cases here, and more often than not, the injury occurs because someone is working around the house and isn't wearing proper eye protection.

Some people are afraid that folding their glasses and putting them in a case will wear out the temples, hinge, and screws.
We can bust that myth!!!
Leaving your glasses open and out can cause much more damage than a loose screw. Screws can loosen up over time due to normal wear and tear.
Leaving your glasses open and out can lead to accidental damage. Sitting on them, stepping on them, scratches, dust, dirt, debris, crazing or cracking due to heat, or damage from a pet.
BEST PRACTICE IS ON YOUR FACE OR IN YOUR CASE!!

Hey Doctor Aly, how did you join the eyecare industry?
(I mean, tell me, have you ever met a child that says they want to grow up to be an Eye Doctor? No. So if this isn't a childhood dream, what drove you into the field?)
"When I was 16 I went in for an eye exam and saw my first ever female Eye Doctor, and she did a phenomenal job! I was at that age when school tells you to keep your eyes out and research careers in every industry you can think of. So I thought to myself 'I can do that!' I knew I wanted to be in the medical field so I looked into Optometry and perused that path!"
