North Walton Doctors Hospital is a COMMUNITY hospital with a heart for those who live and work in Walton County.

The overdose prevention task force, working with the Walton County Sheriff’s office and the Florida Department of Health, will add up to ten new Narcan boxes at county-owned locations during a six-month pilot program. The task force is made up of various members of the community.

Attention North Walton Seniors:

The main open enrollment period for Medicare Advantage is January 1–March 31. This period allows people already enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan to switch to a different Medicare Advantage plan or to switch back to Original Medicare.

If you want to be able to access our facility for outpatient labs and imaging (X-ray, CT, or Ultrasound), outpatient surgery (spine and orthopedic surgery), or our soon to be coming primary care and urgent care services, you cannot be a United Medicare Advantage patient.

Several very good options exist- Blue Cross, Cigna, and Humana all offer excellent Medicare Advantage plans OR if you don’t want to hassle at all with getting referrals and authorizations, you can opt back to traditional Medicare. In just 30 days, you have an opportunity to make a change and have access to the highest rated hospital in the Florida Panhandle. The 4.8 stars on Google Reviews doesn’t lie.

Even with new Emergency Care options coming to DeFuniak, Freestanding ER’s are not hospitals. They cannot offer any outpatient labs or imaging, they cannot offer any outpatient surgery, they cannot offer any clinic based services. And we do accept all insurances through the ER, even the dreadful United plans (the federal government mandated they pay for ER services).

Walton County, Florida — North Walton Doctors Hospital is ending the 2025 year with new leadership at the helm.

North Walton Doctors Hospital announces Dr. Huy Nguyen has stepped down as Chief Executive Officer, which was effective Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

The Board of Directors has appointed Ben Burnham as the new CEO to guide the hospital through its next chapter of growth, development, and service to the community.

Since the hospital opened its doors in September 2024, Dr. Nguyen’s leadership has been instrumental in transforming North Walton Doctors Hospital from a new healthcare startup into a trusted and steadily expanding medical provider for the region.

Under his direction, the hospital established strong patient-care processes, recruited and developed a dedicated clinical and administrative team, and achieved consistently high patient satisfaction including strong Google review scores and personal-care accolades from the community.

“The opening of this hospital has been a journey, and many of you have been here from the beginning,” Dr. Nguyen shared in a message to staff. “I appreciate everyone for their work at our beloved hospital. We have achieved much since we opened especially with the quality and delivery of care. There is so much more to do as we continue to grow and expand the hospital.”

The Board of Directors expressed its gratitude to Dr. Nguyen for his vision, dedication, and years of service, and looks forward to his continued role as a physician-owner and leader within the hospital’s medical community.

Incoming CEO Ben Burnham brings more than 20 years of healthcare operations and clinical service experience, including leadership roles in hospitals of similar size and scope. He has served previously as a hospital CEO and is recognized for strengthening operational efficiency, expanding service lines, and elevating patient-care standards.

“I am honored to lead North Walton Doctors Hospital as we continue on this journey and collaborate with our talented team to bring new opportunities, services, and value to the communities we serve," said Burnham "Our organization stands on the foundation built by Dr. Nguyen, and I look forward to advancing our mission of high-quality, patient-centered care.”
