Dry eye doesn’t suddenly show up out of nowhere — it builds quietly. 🤫

That’s why early treatment matters even if your symptoms feel mild or “not that bad yet.”

When we address dry eye early, we can:
✨ Prevent worsening inflammation
✨ Reduce daily dependence on drops
✨ Improve work + sleep quality
✨ Protect your eyes and tear glands for the long term

Waiting until things feel severe often means the glands are already stressed or damaged, making treatment more complex.

Early care = easier care.
Your eyes deserve proactive, preventative self-care — long before discomfort becomes your new normal.

Over the past year in Del Mar, I’ve noticed something striking: so many of us deal with dry, irritated, tired eyes — and often quietly.

It made me think… how can I help you feel better, see clearer, and finally get relief that lasts?

I’ve been working on something new behind the scenes, and I can’t wait to share it with you soon. 🤗✨

✨ Your body speaks in whispers before it screams. Are you listening? 👁️

April is , and while stress is a normal part of life, chronic stress can quietly take a toll on your body—and even show up in your vision.

Think blurry vision, light sensitivity, dry eyes, eye twitching, or eye strain? 👀 Your nervous system and your eyes are more connected than you might think.

Stress isn’t always about big life events. Sometimes, it’s the everyday noise, poor sleep, or skipped meals that slowly dysregulate your system. And when your body stays in survival mode too long, it starts treating every little thing like a threat—cue anxiety, tension, and physical symptoms.

You can’t control the world around you, but you can tune into how your body reacts and start showing up for yourself with small, consistent habits. That includes checking in on your eye health.

🧘‍♀️ Self-regulation is health care.
👁️ Preventive eye care is self-care.

Hi, Dr. Mallari here!👋 It’s been a minute.

I took a pause from social media to care for my mental health and re-align with the “why” behind my practice. Now, as I approach one year since opening my doors at Eye Exam Del Mar, I’m feeling so much gratitude—for the patients who’ve trusted me, the lessons I’ve learned, and the space this journey has created for growth.

This next chapter is about more than just eye care—it’s about whole care. I want this page to reflect that: a space where we talk vision AND wellness, clarity AND connection.

Thank you for being here, whether you’re new or have been with me from the beginning. Let’s re-focus—together 💛

✍🏼 Eye care tip: Use eye drops (specifically artificial tears) on a daily basis 2-4x/day! 👁️💧

If you’re someone who needs it on a more frequent basis, or feels sensitivity from artificial tears- opt for preservative free artificial tears!

We don’t want to wait for our eyes to dry off before using drops, as it could lead to inflammation, burning/foreign body sensation, pain, blurry vision, or our eyes feeling like sand paper when we blink!

We want to maintain a healthy tear film to PREVENT these symptoms!^^

⏭️See my other video post on which drops are good✅ to use that is available over the counter, and which drops to avoid❌.

It’s always best to consult with your local optometrist on which drops are best for your case, because the underlying cause of dry eyes are specific to you!

Taking retinal images is an invaluable assessment of the health of your eyes. It documents a wider view of the retina (the tissue layers that line the inside of your eyes), allowing early detection of potential issues (i.e. diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal tears/detachments, etc.) and underlying medical conditions like diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, some cancers, stroke risk factors, and auto-immune disorders.

These high-resolution images reveal even the smallest abnormalities and serve as a physical document to be compared to other images taken over time for close monitoring and guided personalized treatment plans ensuring the best possible outcomes for your vision.

Changes may occur inside of your eyes without causing any symptoms or noticeable changes in your vision. Early detection= timely intervention! It significantly lowers the risk of vision loss and permanent damage, maintaining your quality of life!

No eye drops are involved in order to take these images. They may help alleviate the need for a pupil dilation exam, but doesn’t replace it. The best comprehensive approach to evaluating the health of your eyes is with both images and a dilation in conjunction!

A dilation offers your provider to see abnormalities for themselves, which may give more detail with their own depth perception. Sometimes, a dilation can offer more of a peripheral view of the retina. Sometimes, retinal images may offer a better view if a patient’s eyes don’t respond well to dilation drops.

Stay ahead of your health, and schedule your routine annual eye exam. We’re only given one pair of eyes, so let’s make sure to look after them! Considering the long-term benefits and potential cost savings associated with early detection and treatment of eye conditions utilizing retinal images, it’s a worthwhile investment in your overall health and well-being!
