Hormone Replacement is being hugely over credited and horrendously misunderstood.
Hormones are messengers.
They do not repair metabolism.
They do not restore insulin sensitivity.
They do not fix liver clearance, gut dysbiosis, mitochondrial dysfunction, or chronic nervous system stress.
They move through the environment they are given, and if that environment is inflamed, insulin resistant, overloaded, or unsafe, hormones cannot magically override it.
What HRT does is mask symptoms.
Hot flushes settle.
Sleep may improve.
Mood may feel steadier and because the symptoms quieten, both women and doctors assume protection has been achieved. But metabolic dysfunction can continue progressing silently underneath.
Insulin resistance does not stop because estrogen was added.
Liver congestion does not resolve because progesterone was prescribed.
Nervous system dysregulation does not disappear because a patch was applied.
So when symptoms or disease later emerges, it is framed as age related, genetic, degenerative and isolated... rather than recognised as the downstream consequence of long standing metabolic strain that was never addressed.
This is an absolute failure of the perimenopause/menopause model.
Hormone replacement can be supportive when the system can process it. But it is not protective in isolation, protection comes from metabolic health, from stable insulin signalling, effective detoxification, resilient mitochondria, balanced gut ecology, and a nervous system that feels safe.
Until medicine fully integrates that reality, women will continue to be told they are doing everything right while their bodies pay the price.
