As we approach Thanksgiving, many of us think about gratitude as a list or a feeling.
But gratitude is also a practice of presence.
It asks:
Can I notice what is happening, right now, in this moment?
Can I pause long enough to see the goodness that is already here?
Gratitude helps us soften the fear-based narratives we carry while orienting ourselves toward possibility, compassion, and connection. It is a way of training the mind toward integration. Integration is defined as the linkage of differentiated components of a system. In other words, all the different parts of you are working together instead of pulling you apart…We call that resilience.
It is presence that makes this possible.
This holiday season, I invite you to choose one of the following practices:
• Begin your morning with this mantra, "This day is a gift. May I meet it with awareness and compassion"
• Pause throughout your day for one minute of mindful breathing
• As you prepare or eat a meal, notice one smell, flavor, or texture you’re grateful for
• Slow down long enough to be in awe - of that sunset on the commute home, the loving eyes of your pet, or how radiant your partner looks
Small shifts create profound change.
Your presence is a gift - to yourself, to your relationships, and to the world around you.
Wishing you a lovely start to the holiday season.
