Whole grains need to be prepared a certain way for your body to get the most nourishment from them. 🌾

Most people don’t realize that whole grains- and even nuts, seeds, and legumes-naturally contain compounds like phytic acid and lectins. These can make them harder to digest and can reduce mineral absorption if the grains aren’t prepared properly.

This doesn’t mean you should avoid them at all! These food are incredibly nutritious- you just want to prep them the traditional way. 💛

🌿 Sprouting
🌿Fermentation

These time-honored methods help break down those natural compounds and activate enzymes that make grains easier to digest and more nourishing.

And honestly…long-fermented sourdough is one of my favorite traditions. There’s nothing quite like a warm, homemade loaf straight from the oven- and sharing it with your kids and family makes it even better! 💕

Raw dog food-making day! 🐾
And Charlee definitely knows what’s going on- tail wagging, nose sniffing since the grinder came out! 😄🩷

Today’s muscle blend: a little heart, tongue, rabbit, beef, pork, turkey and venison all going through the grinder for this sweet girl. I’ve found the assembly-line method works best:
✨80% muscle meat
✨10% bone
✨10% organ ( and always 1/2 being liver)

And shoutout to my husband’s deer grinder…who knew it would be the MVP of dog meal prep?! 😂

🍎 The fall decorations are slowly making their way out…It’s been so warm lately that it’s hard to get into full autumn mode. But today gave me a little push- I finally used the apples we picked at Peck & Bushel in Colgate to make a cozy apple crisp 🍏 paired with homemade vanilla ice cream. Let’s just say…dessert is going to be spot on tonight! 😋

We love heading to Peck & Bushel- not only is the orchard absolutely beautiful and thoughtfully designed, but their apples are organic, bursting with flavor, and come in so many amazing varieties.

A lot of people often ask why to choose organic fruit- especially apples. Simply put: when you eat non-organic produce, you’re also consuming the pesticides and sprays used to grow it. Choosing organic means one less load of toxins your body has to deal with and more nutrition in the produce too. 🌿

And beyond that- apples are powerhouses when it comes to nutrition. They’re a great source of fiber, especially pectin, which supports healthy digestion and gut health. They also provide vitamin C and other essential nutrients your body need to thrive. 🍎✨

Honestly. I could write a whole book on the harmful chemicals in our food system and how they impact our health. But for now, I’ll just say - when it’s available and within reach, choose organic. Your body will thank you. 💚

✨Today I tried something new in the kitchen…sourdough blueberry muffins! 🫐They may not be the prettiest looking batch, but I’ll let my kiddos be the final judges on taste! 😋

I seriously love making muffins- they’re such a convenient snack, and my boys do too! 👨‍🍳 Muffins are a great way to sneak in some nutrition, and they’re perfect for quick breakfasts, on-the-go snacks, or even dessert (just toss in some chocolate chips).

Let’s be real-mornings can be wild when you’re trying to get everyone out the door. But having a fridge stocked with homemade muffins? Total game-changer.🙌 they’re way more nourishing than a bowl of cereal, and the best part is knowing exactly what’s in them-no hidden oils or weird ingredients.

Plus, you can mix things up every time you bake, and a batch make 12…so they actually last more than a day. Win-win! 💪🙋‍♀️

Day 1 of our raw diet journey! 🐶🥩🍗

As a busy mom, I have lists for everything—
The to-do’s, the don’t-forgets, the grocery runs…
But sometimes, I need a little reminder to include myself on those lists too.

Self-care doesn’t have to be fancy, expensive, or time-consuming.
Sometimes, the most powerful thing I do for myself is take a simple walk.
It gives me fresh air, quiet moments, space to think, and a little movement for my body.

Maybe you needed this beautiful reminder today, too.
