I am currently working up January’s yoga schedule. They will vary around my other work schedule, but will fall on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. They will take place at Moo Do Martial Arts Academy in the evening. Typically 2-3 days a week.

It will be $25 a class. You can do drop ins.

I will post the schedule when I complete it.

Strong is the new skinny. Strong doesn’t mean starved and it doesn’t mean skinny. You can be strong in mind and strong in body regardless of what that scale says.

It’s that time of year where the stress and anxiety starts to creep in. Whether it’s time, money, or seasonal depression, our body feels it.

Here’s what I want you to do:

Take a deep breath in through your nose. As you deeply, but slowly exhale through your mouth, unclench your jaw. Relax your face. Take another deep inhale and on this next exhale, drop your shoulders and relax. With your eyes closed, spend a few minutes (or what you can), just breathing. In through your nose, out through your mouth. Just focus on the rise and fall of your chest and just breathe.

We walk around in such a constant state of tightness that we don’t notice we’re doing it anymore. Especially in our upper body and face.

This is a good exercise to do anytime, but especially when things are getting more stressful or we just need to decompress. You’ll notice your heart rate and blood pressure lower and you’ll notice an overall sense of well-being. The biggest take away? You’ll feel less stressed in that moment, leading you to reevaluate and refocus.

Tomorrow’s AM class has been cancelled. Unfortunately my kids have passed on their stomach bug to me. I’ll get something rescheduled for a later date.

The great thing about yoga, is that it’s great for all walks of life. Younger (even kids), older, small, tall, thin or overweight. Yoga is much easier on the joints and body than typical strength training. Which is not for everybody and often times not practical.

The other great thing is that yoga is not religious based and does not subscribe to a specific religion.

Yoga is about joining your mind and body.

Tip of the day:

Relaxing with your legs up 15-20 minutes a day has numerous health benefits. Let gravity do it’s job! Improved blood circulation since the heart doesn’t have to work as hard. Ease anxiety, foot pain, leg pain and hip pain. With your legs elevated there’s less pressure on those extremities. You’ll also noticed improved oxygen flow and reduced swelling. Don’t have 15-20 minutes (like most of us don’t), even a few minutes a day has added benefits.

(FYI, I’m not a doctor).

If all you did was just get out of bed today, I’m proud of you!
