New Year's Greetings! . .
Staying home tonight? I am. I've never been big on parties, especially on the biggest party night of the year. If you're like me, preferring to stay home and chill out, why not join me at 8:00 pm for Weekend Wind Down. It's one hour (or slightly more) of relaxing poses, all done on the floor supported by pillows & blankets. And you'll still have time to ring in the new year at midnight...if you're still awake 😉 www.ahsanayoga.com/schedule . .
If I don't see you tonight, have a safe and happy new year. Classes will resume on Tuesday, Jan 2.

ASHTANGA-BASED VINYASA FLOW
Sundays 10-11 am . .
Q: How is Ashtanga-Based Vinyasa Flow different from other Vinyasa classes?
A: The sequence. You'll practice the same poses in the same order each time.
* The benefit is that after several sessions you'll start to learn the sequence by heart.
* Once the sequence is familiar to you, you can pay more attention to how each pose feels and what you can do to adjust or refine it so it feels even better.
* You can also pay greater attention to your own breath and move in harmony with it.
* Eventually you can make it part of your home practice . .
Want to give it a try? Join me on Sunday mornings from 10-11 am.

Ashtanga-Based Vinyasa Flow at 10:00 AM EST on January 22 offered by Ah-sana Yoga. The Ashtanga-Based Vinyasa Flow class has its roots in the postures of the traditional Ashtanga Primary Series. What does “Ah-sana Yoga” mean?

In the Yoga Sutras, an ancient yoga text, the author, Patanjali, discusses the eight limbs of yoga. The third limb is asana (pronounced AH-sah-nah) and refers to the physical practice that we refer to as “yoga”. At Ah-sana Yoga (same pronunciation) the emphasis is two-fold: practicing asana and finding your AHHH!

When I began my yoga teacher training in 2006, I was immediately drawn to the physical aspect of the practice (asana). Don’t get me wrong - the other seven limbs are interesting and important to having a complete yoga practice. But anatomy fascinates me! I was so excited to learn that each person’s unique skeletal anatomy influences their ability to move and shape their body into what we call “poses” or “postures”. Here’s a simple example of what I mean.

A person with long legs may not be able to touch their hands to the floor in a forward fold simply because their hips are further away from the floor. Similarly, a person with shorter legs may be able to reach the floor more easily because they are closer to the floor to start with. This, of course, is a very simplified example and does not take into consideration muscular flexibility and a host of other factors.

My passion is working with students to help them discover and explore their unique anatomy and helping them create a practice that fits their body. I welcome students at any point in their yoga journey - just starting out or years of experience. Classes are small, with time for individual attention to alignment and form.
