The SAFE Delaware County Coalition, led by the Delaware Public Health District, reviews every traffic death in our county — a sobering reminder of how important safe driving is, especially during the busy holiday months.

In 2024, 20 lives were lost in 19 crashes — five of those during November and December. So far this year, 14 lives have been lost in 10 crashes. Alarmingly, many were due to drivers crossing the center line or not wearing seat belts.

SAFE invites the community to join us in remembering these lives during the Worldwide Day of Remembrance for Traffic Victims on November 14 at noon, at the Ohio State Highway Patrol Post (1500 Columbus Pike, Delaware) or via Facebook livestream.

You've been protecting your kids their whole lives. So don't just hand them the keys to a two-ton machine with no rules... Talk it out. Tell your teenagers they have to agree to 5 rules to drive: no cell phones, no extra passengers, no speeding, no alcohol, and buckle-up. Set the rules before they hit the road.

Kennedy’s message is clear: your choices matter. Whether it’s wearing a seat belt, slowing down, staying focused, or limiting passengers, safe driving saves lives — including your own.

Watch now to hear Kennedy’s journey in her own words.

October is National Pedestrian Safety Month! Remember to use extra caution when driving in hard-to-see conditions — 77% of pedestrian fatalities in 2023 occurred in the dark.

Follow the speed limit, especially around people on the street, around schools, and in neighborhoods where children are present.
