Brain fog? It's not just you. It's your nervous system. 🧠

If you're walking into rooms and forgetting why, struggling to focus on simple tasks, feeling like you're thinking through mud, constantly losing your train of thought, or just feeling mentally "off" - that's not normal aging or just being busy.

That's brain fog. And it's a nervous system issue.

Mental clarity is a byproduct of nervous system health. When your nervous system is dysregulated, your brain doesn't get the clear signals it needs to function optimally.

Did you know that the first bone in your neck (C1) sits right where your brainstem is?
Your vagus nerve runs past it.

When C1 is imbalanced - from stress, poor posture, old injuries, or just life - it creates interference in the signals between your brain and body.

That interference shows up as brain fog, difficulty concentrating, memory issues, slow processing, and mental fatigue.

Chiropractic adjustments - especially to the upper cervical spine - remove that interference.

When your body is in a state of ease, vagal tone allows the body to function properly, blood flow to the brain improves, nerve signals transmit clearly, inflammation decreases, and your brain can actually do its job.

We see this all the time: people who've been living in a fog for months (or years) suddenly have clarity again after a few adjustments. Not because we "fixed their brain."

Because we removed the interference blocking their nervous system from supporting cognitive function.

You don't have to accept brain fog as your new normal.

If your child is constantly catching colds, missing school, chronic ear infections, or have respiratory issues all year long...
You're doing everything right - vitamins, good food, sleep, hand-washing, but your child still gets sick constantly while their sibling stays healthy all year.

Here's what's really happening:
Your immune system it's controlled by your nervous system.
Every immune response - white blood cell production, inflammation regulation, pathogen identification and elimination - is coordinated through nerve signals from the brain and spinal cord.

In kids, the upper cervical spine (top of the neck) is where critical immune-regulating nerves exit.

When there's stress or tension in that area from:
-Birth trauma (even "normal" births)
-Falls and tumbles (being a kid)
-Poor posture (iPad neck)
Developmental stress..it creates interference in those nerve pathways.

This results in the immune system not being able to function at full capacity.
The body can't mount an effective defense against infections and your child catches everything that goes around.
Plus, nervous system dysregulation suppresses immunity when kids are stuck in fight-or-flight mode (from stress, overstimulation, schedule chaos, sensory overload), their bodies prioritize survival over immune function.

Chronic stress= suppressed immunity= constantly getting sick.

This is why siblings in the same house have different experiences:
Same exposure to germs. Different nervous system function. Different immune outcomes.

Chiropractic supports immune resilience in kids by intentional and specific adjustments so nerve signals to immune organs flow clearly, regulate the nervous system out of chronic stress mode so immunity isn't suppressed and build nervous system resilience so their bodies can adapt to exposures without getting sick.

What parents report in our office:
"We went from sick every 2 weeks to maybe once all winter."
"No more constant ear infections or antibiotics."
"My child's teacher noticed - they're the only kid who hasn't missed school."
"Their immune system finally seems to WORK."

It's not about avoiding germs. It's about building a nervous system that can handle them.

The room won't stop spinning. You feel like you're on a boat.

Simple tasks like standing up makes you nauseous or turning your head triggers episodes that last hours or days.
You've been told it's BPPV (crystals in your inner ear), Meniere's disease, or vestibular migraines.
You've done the Epley maneuver a hundred times. Sometimes it helps temporarily, but often it doesn't. And it just keeps coming back.

It's not your ear that is causing the vertigo- It's your NECK.
Your brain uses three systems to know where you are in space:

1. Vestibular system (inner ear) - detects head movement
2. Visual system (eyes) - sees your position relative to surroundings
3. Proprioceptive system (spine and joints) - feels your body's position

When these three systems send matching signals, your brain knows exactly where you are. When the signals don't match, your brain gets confused—and that confusion is vertigo.

Your upper neck (cervical spine) sends MORE proprioceptive signals to your brain than any other area of your body. These signals tell your brain where your head is positioned at all times.

When C1 or C2 is subluxated (imbalanced), your brain receives WRONG information about where your head is. The proprioceptive signals don't match what your inner ear and eyes are reporting, and your brain panics. This causes the room to spin.

Upper cervical subluxations also affect your brainstem—where all balance information is processed. This disrupts vestibular nucleus function, communication between balance centers, blood flow to the inner ear, and vagus nerve regulation (which is why you feel nauseous).

Your balance system can't integrate information properly, even if your inner ear is structurally fine.

Upper cervical adjustments by a trained chiropractor restore accurate proprioceptive input from your neck to your brain. After an upper neck adjustment:
âś… Your brain receives correct information about head position
âś… Signals match between all three balance systems
âś… Brainstem function improves
âś… Vertigo resolves

If Epley maneuvers aren't working, if medications barely help, if it keeps coming back—your inner ear might not be the problem. Your upper cervical spine is.

That "sciatica" everyone keeps diagnosing you with?
It's probably not sciatica.

True sciatica is nerve compression at the lumbar spine—usually from a herniated disc or spinal stenosis.
It's actually pretty rare.

What you're experiencing 90% of the time is REFERRAL PAIN that mimics sciatica but comes from completely different sources:
SI Joint Dysfunction - When your sacroiliac joint (where your pelvis meets your spine) is misaligned or inflamed, it refers pain down your leg that feels identical to sciatica. Shooting pain, burning, numbness—all the same symptoms, different source.

Piriformis Syndrome - Your piriformis muscle sits right on top of your sciatic nerve. When it's tight or spasming (often from pelvic misalignment), it compresses the nerve and creates sciatica-like symptoms. But it's a MUSCLE problem, not a nerve root problem.

Pelvic Imbalance - Pregnancy, falls, repetitive movements, poor posture—these create pelvic imbalances that put pressure on nerves and refer pain down the leg.

Here's why this matters:
If you're treating true sciatica when you actually have SI joint dysfunction, you're chasing the WRONG THING. Anti-inflammatories, nerve pain medication, even surgery—none of it will fix a mechanical pelvic problem.

Chiropractic adjustments address the ROOT cause. We assess whether it's your SI joint, your piriformis, your pelvis, or actual nerve compression—and we correct the dysfunction at the source.
We've seen countless people told they have "chronic sciatica" experience complete relief after we adjusted their pelvis and SI joint. Because it was never sciatica in the first place.

Stop treating the wrong thing. Get to the root.

You've been lied to about postpartum recovery.

"Six weeks and you're cleared!" they say.
As if your body just magically returns to its pre-pregnancy state. As if nine months of massive physical transformation and the most intense event of your life can be undone in 42 days.

The reality is: 6 weeks postpartum is when your uterus has shrunk back and your bleeding has (mostly) stopped. That's it.

It is NOT when:
Your pelvic floor is fully restored
Your core has reconnected
Your nervous system has regulated
Your hormones have rebalanced
Your spine has realigned
You've actually healed

ACTUAL postpartum recovery? 6 to 12+ months. Sometimes longer.

And here's what your body actually needs during that time:
1. Nervous System Support (3-6 months minimum)
You spent 9 months with elevated stress hormones and then went through the most physically intense experience of your life. Your nervous system needs help shifting OUT of survival mode so it can support hormone regulation, deep healing, and true recovery.
2. Physical Balance (3-12 months)
Your pelvis expanded, your spine curved forward, your ribs flared, your organs shifted, and your ligaments stretched. None of that just "snaps back." Regular chiropractic adjustments help restore balance, support core reconnection, and prevent chronic pain patterns from setting in.

3. Hormone Rebalancing (6-18 months)
Estrogen and progesterone plummet. Prolactin surges if you're breastfeeding. Oxytocin floods and cortisol tries to regulate. These massive shifts affect your sleep, mood, energy, weight, and healing capacity. Nervous system care supports your body's ability to navigate this transition naturally.

The 6-week mark isn't the finish line. It's barely the starting line.

You didn't "bounce back." You TRANSFORMED.
Your body performed miracles—and it deserves the time, support, and care to heal properly.

Your pregnancy care shouldn't look the same at 8 weeks as it does at 38 weeks.

Because what your body needs in the first trimester is completely different from what it needs in the third. And your nervous system—the system coordinating every single change happening in your body—needs specific support at every stage.

FIRST TRIMESTER (Weeks 1-13): Adaptation + Regulation

Your body is experiencing a massive hormonal surge. Morning sickness, extreme fatigue, emotional overwhelm—your nervous system is trying to adapt to rapid changes. Early adjustments support hormone regulation, reduce nausea signals through vagus nerve function, and help your body establish a strong foundation for the months ahead.

SECOND TRIMESTER (Weeks 14-27): Alignment + Space

Baby's growth accelerates. Your center of gravity shifts forward. Round ligament pain shows up. This is when we focus on pelvic balance (Webster Technique) and spinal support as your curves change. We're creating optimal SPACE for baby to grow and positioning your body for an easier third trimester and labor.

THIRD TRIMESTER (Weeks 28-40): Positioning + Preparation

Maximum physical changes. Sciatica, p***c pain, rib pain. Your body is preparing for labor, and baby needs to get into optimal position. Weekly adjustments help your pelvis open and align, relieve nerve pressure, support baby's positioning, and prepare your nervous system for labor.
Studies show regular adjustments in the third trimester correlate with shorter labor times and fewer interventions.

Your nervous system is coordinating organ shifts, blood volume increases, hormone fluctuations, postural changes, and baby's development—all at once.
When it's functioning optimally, pregnancy feels safer, labor progresses more smoothly, and baby thrives.
You're not just "carrying a baby." You're performing biological miracles every single day. And your nervous system deserves trimester-specific support through it all.

Ever notice how your shoulders tense up when you're anxious? Or how your stomach hurts when you're stressed?

Your body doesn't separate emotional stress from physical stress.
To your nervous system, it's all the same—it's all THREAT.

When you experience emotional stress (work pressure, relationship conflict, financial worry, grief, overwhelm), your nervous system kicks into fight-or-flight mode. And when you stay in that state chronically, your body starts to break down.

Here's how emotional stress becomes physical pain:
Muscle tension - Your body literally braces for danger. Tight shoulders, clenched jaw, tension headaches, lower back pain—it's your nervous system holding on.
Inflammation - Chronic stress increases cortisol and inflammatory markers, leading to joint pain, digestive issues, and chronic conditions.
Nerve sensitivity - When your nervous system is on high alert, it interprets normal sensations as pain. Everything feels more intense.
Poor sleep and healing - Stress disrupts your body's ability to rest and repair, so pain lingers and injuries don't heal properly.
Digestive dysfunction - Your gut is directly connected to your nervous system. Stress = IBS, bloating, nausea, acid reflux.

You're not "just stressed." Your body is RESPONDING to stress the only way it knows how.
Chiropractic care doesn't erase your stressors. But it DOES help your nervous system shift out of fight-or-flight mode and into a state where healing, digestion, sleep, and pain regulation can actually happen.

Regular adjustments help your body process stress instead of storing it as tension and pain.
You deserve care that addresses the whole picture—not just the symptoms.

"Dear Nervous System,
You've carried me through every hard conversation, sleepless night, heartbreak, and overwhelming day. You've kept my heart beating, my lungs breathing, my body healing, even when I didn't give you the support you deserved.

This year, I want to say thank you and I want to show you some love."

Here are 5 ways to care for your nervous system this month (and every month):
1. Get Adjusted Regularly
Remove the interference. Restore clear communication between your brain and body. Give yourself the foundation for optimal function.

2. Prioritize Deep Sleep
Your nervous system repairs and resets during sleep. 7-9 hours isn't indulgent, it's essential for hormone regulation, mood stability, and healing.

3. Practice Breathwork
Deep, intentional breathing activates your vagus nerve and shifts you out of fight-or-flight mode. Try 4-7-8 breathing: inhale for 4, hold for 7, exhale for 8. Instant reset.

4. Move Your Body Gently
Walking, stretching, yoga—gentle movement signals SAFETY to your nervous system. You don't need intense workouts. You need joyful, consistent movement.

5. Connect with Safe People
Your nervous system co-regulates with others. Hugs, laughter, deep conversations, these tell your brain you're safe. You're wired for connection. Let yourself receive it.

Your nervous system is your lifeline. It controls everything: how you sleep, heal, digest, handle stress, and show up in the world.

This Valentine's Day, instead of just celebrating romantic love, let's celebrate the incredible system that makes it all possible.

Give your nervous system the care it's been begging for.

"When should I get my baby checked?"

As soon as possible.

Your baby's first year is the most neurologically active time of their entire life. Their brain is forming 1 million neural connections PER SECOND. Their nervous system is learning how to regulate everything: digestion, sleep, immune response, movement, emotional regulation.

But birth (even the "easy" ones) is incredibly physical. The pressure, pulling, twisting, and compression that happens during delivery can create tension and imbalances in your baby's delicate spine, especially in the upper neck.

This interference can show up as:
-Colic and excessive crying
-Difficulty latching or nursing on one side
-Torticollis (head tilting/preference)
-Reflux and digestive issues
-Sleep struggles
-Developmental delays in rolling, crawling, sitting

When we check babies (as early as hours or days old), we're not "fixing" them. We're removing any interference in their nervous system so their body can develop, heal, and grow the way it's meant to.

Gentle, specific adjustments support:
✨ Proper brain-body communication
✨ Optimal digestion and sleep
✨ Immune system development
✨ Motor skill progression
✨ Emotional regulation

The earlier you support your baby's nervous system, the stronger their foundation for lifelong health.

Your baby's nervous system is their lifeline. Make sure it's functioning at 100% from day one.

You get to choose how you show up for your health.

Every day, you're making decisions. Some may feel small and some feel overwhelming.
Healthcare isn't something that just happens TO you. It's something you get to actively choose.

When you choose nervous system care? You're choosing to address the ROOT of how your body functions, not just chase symptoms around.
Your nervous system controls everything, how you sleep, digest, regulate stress, fight off illness, and heal.

When there's interference in that system (what we call stress on the system), your body can't do what it was designed to do.

Chiropractic adjustments remove that interference. They restore communication between your brain and body. They give your nervous system the space to FUNCTION the way it's meant to.

This isn't about fixing one thing. It's about supporting your body's ability to heal, adapt, and thrive, from the inside out.

Choosing nervous system care is choosing:
✨ To trust your body's wisdom
✨ To prioritize function over just managing symptoms
✨ To show up for yourself in a way that actually supports long-term health

You deserve a healthcare approach that sees you as whole. One that honors your body's innate intelligence and empowers you to take control of your wellbeing.

That's what we're here for.

Ready to choose differently? Link in bio to schedule your first visit with us at Soma Chiropractic.

The six-week postpartum checkup isn't the finish line - it's just the starting point.

You go to that appointment, get cleared, and everyone acts like your body just magically bounced back.

But mama, you know the truth.

Your back aches from nursing all day. Your neck is stiff from looking down at your baby. Your core feels weak. Your pelvic floor isn't quite right. And maybe you're struggling with postpartum anxiety or depression that no one prepared you for.

You were told your body would "go back to normal" after six weeks. But postpartum doesn't end at six weeks. It's a journey that lasts months - even years.

Here's what we see in our practice:
Postpartum moms who receive regular chiropractic care experience real, measurable improvements in both physical recovery AND mental health.
Why? Your nervous system controls everything. From your posture, pelvic floor, stress response, mood, energy, and your ability to regulate emotions when you're running on 3 hours of sleep.

When your body is in a state of balance and your nervous system is clear, your body can actually heal the way it's supposed to.
Not just physically - but emotionally, too.

We're not saying chiropractic care is the only thing you need postpartum.
You need support, rest, nourishment, and community.

But the foundation for taking in all of this support- is your nervous system. That's a piece too many moms are missing.
And it makes all the difference.

Swipe to see the 7 benefits we see in postpartum moms who commit to chiropractic care beyond those first six weeks.

If you're a mama struggling right now - whether you're 8 weeks postpartum or 8 years - your body still deserves support.

You don't have to just push through. You don't have to accept that "this is just mom life now."

You deserve to feel strong, grounded, and like yourself again.
