I had the honor of working with three world-class spa properties in Napa, Sonoma and Alabama over the past few weeks.

A huge thank you to The Meritage Resort and Spa-Napa, Montage Hotels & Resorts-Sonoma, and PCH Hotels & Resorts for investing in the mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing of their teams.

In my “Creating a Respectful Workplace Culture” workshop, I have each team member reflect about their favorite subject- themselves!

They spend about ten minutes reflecting and journaling on the most powerful coaching question I have ever employed-

“What is your contribution to the success and dysfunction here at your Spa?”

I want them to not only contemplate their brilliance (80%) but also own their dysfunction (20%).

After candidly sharing my answer to this question in my own life and business, I invite one brave soul to come up in front of their colleagues and share whatever they feel comfortable sharing.

What ensues is one of the most powerful team building exercises I have ever witnessed. As soon as one team member shares, it opens the floodgates to others following their lead.

When leaders focus on creating a psychologically safe environment and spark curiosity as a core value, team members are surprisingly vulnerable with being honest about their shared humanness.

It continues to be such an honor to teach mental, emotional and physical wellbeing in the world of caregivers. They need it now more than ever.
