You might have seen bakuchiol called a natural alternative to retinol, but does it actually work? 👀✨ Let’s break it down ⬇️
💡 Retinol is part of the retinoid family and remains the gold standard for anti-agiing. It’s been studied for decades and works by increasing cell turnover and stimulating collagen, helping to improve fine lines, wrinkles, texture and pigmentation
🌿 Bakuchiol is a plant-derived ingredient shown to support collagen production and reduce signs of aging. It also has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits
📊 The key difference? Evidence. Bakuchiol doesn’t yet have the same depth or long-term clinical research behind it as retinoids.
That said, it’s generally gentler, doesn’t increase sun sensitivity, and can be a great option if you have very sensitive skin, can’t tolerate retinoids, are pregnant, or are looking for a plant-based alternative.
So does bakuchiol work? Yes.
But if you’re looking for the most evidence-backed, results-driven option for anti-ageing, retinoids still set the benchmark 🧪
As always, the best ingredient is the one your skin can tolerate and use consistently 💪
